Anybody wet sand a 5th Gen Camaro?

Curious if anybody here has wet sanded a scratch on a 5th Gen Camaro. And if so, please comment on your experience as well as the thickness of the clear coat.

Thanks in advance.

I have heard that you DO NOT want to wetsand the Camaro unless you are an expert. I know Junkman did it on one car he posted pics of. But the clear is so crappy on this car I wouldn't even go there.

From my Camaro5 Fest thread. I highly suggest you not try it without a paint thickness gauge.

From my Megatron thread...

They were not always this good. I learned at the cost of a few, costly mistakes. That's why I tell people not to try it on anything they care about. I know from experience.

Go to a body shop...pick up some wrecked panels from their scap bin, and practice. (ASK FIRST)

The only way to develop skills is to actually develop them! Practice on junk and then it does not hurt when you find metal where paint is supposed to be.

Only one problem with that technique. You can't practice unless you are properly taught. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

I wetsanded a bumper with 1500 grit paper, then buffed and polished it back. There were rock chips on it before and although they aren't gone it looks so much better.

A lot of body shops stop at 1500. I work my all the way to 3000 because it makes getting rid of all the wet sanding damage so much easier. You don't have to use an aggressive polisher or compound after 3000 grit.

yeah, but we were doing this by hand and we didn't want to mess it up. Still looks 10 times better than before.

How did you buff it out? You cannot get rid of 1500 grit sandpaper damage with a PC, much less by hand. You will need at least a Flex or better yet, a rotary.
