Anyone know the law on Taillight Tint?

im thinking of getting my tail lights tinted, Anyone know what the law is on the tinted taillights, Im sure it cant be much different in different states. If it is a no no has anyone been stoped for it? I know tinting the headlights gets alot of people pulled over, im just wondering if its the same for the tail lights.
Thanks........

Yea it is illegal and a few people have been stopped here for it but a lot of us have them tinted as well so it is up to you if you want to risk it.

100% illegal in any amount. Does not stop people from doing it.

Mine are blacked out, but you can still see them from 1,000 feet

there is no law on the books for tail light tinting, as long as they are visable and are working it is fine, the color also plays a part on it too

True their is no law, but I'd like to see you get a state inspection from a legit shop with tail light tint

Got mine inspected at the Chevrolet dealership and mine has 20% tinted windows and RPI tinted tail lights, tinted side markers and tinted back up lights. Was NEVER questioned about it.

Below is a pic of our Tint (6%) material on the left compared to stock on the right. With this material you should be able to avoid legal trouble because it isn't as visible as our darker material like Gun Smoke (12%) or Charcoal (30%)

below is Gun Smoke - the lens color is still visible with lights off

And Charcoal - no lens color is visible with lights off

Currently the laws are not exact on lens tint except some states have a law that says you may not make any modifications to your lights in any way. Most states, like Texas, have a law that says tail lights must be visible from 500 feet when brakes are applied and in other states it's 1000 feet. With our tint the lights are still visible at 1000 feet just like stock.

I called the police department here in ohio, and they said as long as you can see red light from 1000ft during the day ur good to go. Heres how dark mine are, and you can still clearly see them from 1000ft when on:

Exactly true as long as the red can be seen from your states required distance they are legal. Just check with the police in your respective state.

Mine are totally blacked out. Whenever I see a cop coming I turn on the lights and you can clearly see red.
