Z/28 OR SS VS 2011GT500

this is the first time i might have to take my hat off to a mustang

the first link shows a gt500 going throw VIR at 2.58.5 lap time. VIR is where car and driver holds its lighting lap. here are some #'s to compare this ultra fast time to

camaro 2010 3.09
bmw m3 2008 3.05
porsche gt3 911 3.01
vette z06 2007 2.58.02

does any esle smell bullshit or is this real?

I now own a GT500 and a SS. The GT500 is superior in every way from a performance standpoint.

I still love my Camaro and will enjoy it for many years.

That 100lbs off the nose along with the upgraded suspension over the 2010 was worth almost a 3sec faster time for the 2011 all the while with only 10 more hp. pretty amazing!

3 seconds? Folks, that's 9 seconds faster than the 2010 GT500 did on the same course.

I would have to recheck both times then. Do you have them? I read in two different mags about the 2011 run that said it was 3 seconds faster at that track than the 2010 did. Just going off of what I read. I don't have the real numbers in front of me.


Edit: If that's right are you planning on a trade?

No upgrade for me. I rarely road race my car, so the difference between the 2010 and the 2011 really doesn't matter to me.

As for the time difference, here's another account which specifically mentions the 9 second improvement.

That's pretty amazing. I can't believe it's that much better though. I wonder if conditions were different or a different driver this time around. Hard to believe it would run with a Z06 that is a lot lighter and even though it has less HP.

That is refreshing to hear. I get so tired of people dumping what they have just because the new model has more power or whatever. My SS is badass and is the car I have always wanted. I don't care if a faster, better one comes out next year. This is my baby and I'm keeping her.

I dont see how it could get the same times as a Zo6. That just seems fishy to me. On the subject of the 2011 GT500 vs the upcoming Z28. Unless they figure out how to lose 200lbs from the Z28 or give it about 30 more hp I think its safe to say the Z28 will be at an disadvatage to the GT500 and not keep up with it. But hey I thought the new GT would be quicker than the SS and we all know how that turned out. We will just have to wait and see a heads up comparison. I do wish that GM will at least taget the GT500 as a neck and neck performance test. Having the SS weighing in at 4000lbs and 550hp will not get the job done me thinks.

Thing is, the VIR fast list is comprised of various drivers running on different days in different cars.......... so statistically it is possible but not probable that the '11 GT500 had the best driver, best weather, and best track conditions all coming together by chance on the same day.....

from that list shouldnt the GT500 be #11? I see what you mean about track, weather, and driver because there is no way a Grand Sport is as fast as a ZO6. By the way, what is a Mosler MT?
