Exhaust question

Am I holding back power running a 2.5 exhaust. I'm making over 600whp being superchargered. My headers are 2" primarys down to a 2.5 collector and 2.5 all the way out the back. It's straight piped.
Do I need to look into a 3" exhaust or no?

I can't tell you if you need a 3 inch exhaust system with that level of power. But I can tell you that in my opinion I'd go for a 3 inch cat back. 600hp is a good bit, and you already have 2 inch headers; may as well go for the 3 inch exhaust.

It shouldn't be killing you but you are probably leaving some top end power on the table. Plus 3" sounds better so.....

More air flows through a 3" exhaust than a 2.5" exhaust. Thus, creating more sound. Same goes for putting longtube headers on a car over stock.

3" systems tend to have a deeper tone.

All other things being equal, a larger diameter pipe should improve flow and high-RPM performance while a smaller diameter pipe will have a little more gas scavenging and increase low-RPM torque.

That said, I'm not sure that going from 2.5" to 3" will significantly reduce low-RPM torque enough to change driveability significantly and the 3" will, as others have said, be a bit louder with a deeper tone.

I can't find an exhaust system that don't break the bank. I have $700 in my headers and full exhaust.

Do a muffler/resonator delete. Cost about $150.

He already did that. The whole point of this thread is that he needs a 3inch exhaust

Oops, just saw that.

In any case, if money is a problem, 1/2 an inch isn't going to make that much of a difference. Nothing noticeable except maybe a little in sound, but that's it. I'd save the money and put it towards something else.
