Priced out of my range, but kinda glad. Now I don't have to worry about "do I trade in my SS for a ZL1, or stick with what I have?"

Can't wait to see them rolling around on the streets!

I don't think that makes any sense. $48,810 is the base GT, you already run up over $55k to $56k when you add the options in the 2012 that are included in the ZL1...so even if they only jump the base up a little as you say your still looking at an out the door price tag over $60k. May be worth it, IDK but if your comparing, you have to compare the GT with the upgrades included to match the performance upgrade included in the baseline ZL1, besides you gotta admit this is a step function increase in performance over the 2012 so they won't only bump this a couple thou IMO...as for me I am good with the ZL1, it is all the car I need and I will buy for more than just HP...

Wasn't comparing options, only base prices. Read it.

No, I get that, but if one base has options included and the other base does not it is not a fair comparison...I guess that was my point. Like me building two houses, both 4,000 square feet, one with all the options, the other with just standard. Both are houses, both are functional but you wouldn't compare the price/square foot without accounting for options. You'd make adjustments in your comparison...IMO

I understand what you're saying, it's a good point in fact. I guess I'm not a big options guy. Don't get me wrong, I love the ZL1. Just makes my stomach hurt to see 650 out of the GT500. Maybe 2013 will see more power from the ZL1. I love Camaros in case you were doubting.

I remember when the Challenger came out, I was at the dealer getting my Nitro serviced, and they had one there priced at $70,000 now you can get one way cheaper, so I imagine the dealers will do the same with the ZL1, Mark it up like crazy, I use to own a 2003 Cobra I got rid of like an idiot, thought I was over fast cars......not, so now I'm looking for a Pony Car and the Mustangs are so Ugly now, really wanted the ZL1 but with the dealer Mark up it will be out of Range, I think I will get 2011-2012 2ss pay it off and mod it up myself. sorry for the long post

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Bows: 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

Just the Facts:
  • Ford claims the 2013 Shelby GT500's 650-horsepower supercharged 5.8-liter is "the most powerful production V8 engine in the world."
  • Top speed is more than 200 mph.
  • The 2013 Shelby GT500 goes on sale next year.

LOS ANGELES — The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, which goes on sale next year, sports a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 and a new optional Performance package. Ford says the aluminum engine, which is rated at 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, is "the most powerful production V8 engine in the world." The 2013 Shelby GT500 debuts this week at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Remarkably, the latest edition of the Shelby GT500 has a top speed in excess of 200 mph — thanks in part to its 3,850-pound weight — yet somehow manages to avoid the dreaded federal gas-guzzler tax.
Ford said it has reworked virtually every key component of the driveline, fitting a larger, more-efficient TVS supercharger, new cross-drilled engine block and cylinder heads, updated cam profiles, a new carbon-fiber driveshaft and upgraded clutch, transmission and axle.
To handle the additional torque while still delivering reasonable fuel economy, the six-speed manual transmission was regeared and beefed up.
The optional Performance package bundles SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential. An optional Track package adds an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler.
Among the additional features on the 2013 Shelby GT500 are a new launch control system, Brembo brakes, revised aerodynamics and new forged-aluminum wheels measuring 19 inches in front and 20 inches in the rear, all with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires.
Inside Line says: Most ponies ever.

What is the price though is the question...cuz I already see the weight difference...
so essentially they tried to copy what Chevrolet did. "Hey guys, our mustang has a beefed up suspension also. We also have an and engine cooler. We have launch control, and brembo brakes." "Oh, and by the way, we've added 70 more HP and eagle tires."

I guess imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

That should be the real eye opener.
No you don't sound harsh, you just sound ignorant! The way I see it, 72 months gets you a lower payment and putting additional money toward your monthly payment lowers the principal hence paying off the vehicle earlier. I rather do it that way then attempt to make a 36 month payment of 12-14 hundred dollars. So you telling me that I have no business trying to buy the vehicle in the first place rubs me the wrong way.

I know, I am crushed about the Ford announcement too, I was really thinking this was the one and I am going to get for the long run. I am still getting it because I still think this is truely a classic that looks, feels and drives as the best muscle on the road. I guess I just wanted to know it could beat the competition straight up for a few years before Ford answered. I will be even more dissappointed if GM ups the 2013 and I made the one year too soon mistake! I plan on owning this car for a long time and getting lots of memories out of it!

How does Ford get away with no gas guzzler tax? Does anyone know if it is based on mpg or what?

You'll love the car regardless. It's just a fact that it gets better every year. You have to pull the trigger some time. Also, CAFE comes in soon, so these days are limited. Wish I could buy a ZL1 you're lucky.
