I don't remember where I read it but someone posted about pulling the park brake. I decided to try that and if you pull it up 1 click it will turn off after a second or two and there is really no drag on the brakes for just 1 click. Now if you are driving up a lot of hills etc yeah it would be a pita but I hit very few so no big deal. Anyway, figured I would throw that out there

Question:
With ABS I pull the fuse/relay when driving in the snow and it is disabled. Is there not a fuse of some kind to disable the HSA? If the YAW sensor is under the dash and you have to tear the car apart to do it, I'll just deal with it. I too have driven manuals for many years and just plain don't need it. The damn thing drives me batty!

I actually like the hill assist. If you actually understand how it works then there shouldn't be an issue.

Now I see your point. All I needed was to understand. It was my lack of knowledge that made it suck. What's not to like?

The problem is that HSA doesn't always understand how different people drive, and like most anything else "mass produced" is still subject to variation from car to car. If all of the "adapting" to this system has to be on the driver's part, it simply isn't ready for prime time. It doesn't matter whether such 'adapting' means that the driver has to revise his start-from-a-stop footwork timing or change how hard he steps on the brake pedal while at a stop; those are really drivability issues inherent to the HSA, or with any other kind of automated brake release system***. These problems are not driver errors. A couple of days ago somebody posted that HSA might actually be useful for when you drive your car up on ramps, at least once you get far enough up the incline for it to think you're on a hill. *** like the electronic P-brake on my wife's Subaru, which can cause stalling even on dead flat ground. I have an 11 LS. Would mine have this or only RS package? Maybe I'm in Florida so never had it go off.

I think it started in '13 or '14. I had an '11 that didn't have it but now my '14 does. It's very unnatural in it's execution.

Yeah... it's a good "girlie car" feature.

Well I am a "girlie" who has been driving sticks many, many more years than I care to admit. I like the hill assist on my new six speed 2014 2SS/RS simply because it is that bit of insurance against the dopes that are right on your rear end when your stopped on an incline. Normally I take off like I stole it and it has never impeded me in any way. It is just like the skip shift people whine about. I never see it on the camaro or my manual C6 because I use the horsepower that most people bought these cars for.

You don't owe those dopes a thing.
They're further back than you think. You don't owe those dopes a thing. Hell, I'll intentionally roll back a couple of inches if I think they're watching, and I'll short-shift the 1-2 or brake a little harder come the next traffic light just to wake them up a bit. You don't . . . Norm |

Hill assist is fine for me, just don't fight it, drive it like an auto and you are fine.
