I just got back from my dealer and saw the recall bulletin and the fix instructions. The wiring problem was not due to being next to the exhaust manifold. It is the battery wire on the starter being too close to the starter and the starter bracket that could be a problem on some V8 engines.

The fix is to put special tape in certain areas on the battery wire and make sure it is routed away from any sharp edges. There is a sharp edge on the starter bracket that gets rounded off in the fix. Dealers are instructed not to deliver car until fix is done if it is on the recall list. If it happened once (which it has) it could happen again.

Good call on GM's part to fix with a recall rather than have everyone wait and let them do it before shipping our cars. Mine was built on 4-17 and has been at 4B00 ever since. It is on the recall list and it now shows 4300 (Intermediate Delivery) as of 5-5. I would rather have the dealer fix it than wait any longer than I have to.

Not all V8 cars seem to be on the recall list, only a few.

Got the call about an hour ago... GM is being very proactive about it. Stated it could take up to 1 hour and the parts if any would be in 24 to 48 hours so, I would be able to enjoy my car this weekend. . They where very adamant about not driving the car and they would flat bed it to the dealership. NOT MY CAMARO... Told them I would not drive it except when my dealer called ready for the repair. Small town, I only live 30 seconds away… Sounds like all that needs to be done is reroute the cable and they threw in a 100 gift certificate towards any future services. Very cool.

I thought I read somewhere that GM is giving free oil changes for your trouble.

Nope, a $100 gift certificate towards any future services not parts (I asked). Sending it out in the mail today.

It happened on one that we know of, and GM said lets make sure it doesnt happen on others. Thats a good proactive approach. It may never have happened on a single other car but GM said lets make sure. How is that even a negative issue for GM. I say way to go GM. Thanks for the quality commitment you promissed instead of the "well lets see if it continues to happen, then If we cant deny fault fix it"

Yeah, got a call from Chevrolet today about this. Very few cars have been affected, but they are checking out all the SS's. It does not take long at all. I'm also getting
a $100 maintenance coupon to use on any car I own. Chevrolet is doing an excellent job
to make sure these cars don't have any problems lingering. This might be the fastest recall I've ever heard of. Bottom line it's no big deal, even if some try and make it so.
Thank you Chevrolet!!!!!!!!!

sighh and here comes all the haters jumping on the opportunity to bash GM more because the world is a perfect place where its impossible to make a mistake.

I'm happy GM is reacting fairly quickly before more damage is done...

Recall

I took my Camaro in this afternoon to pick up some accesories. The service manager came out and advised me about the recall. He stated I could leave it there until the parts came in or they would have it towed in from home to complete the repair. GM is not recommending the vehicle be driven until the repair is complete.
