DIY at home Muffler Delete for $20
Hey, tried something I dont think anyone's tried yet, and it worked out great. I wanted to do a muffler delete but have no money, so i just cut the muffler up and used the existing piping in it, only cost me welding wire and torch gas. Took about 5 hours of work total and less then an hour to swap catback's. Used a torch to cut the muffler away, a grinder to smooth edges and cut away excess, and a mig welder to weld up the perforated holes in the pipe, just used the existing mounts. Forgot to get pics of it finished, used rust resistant black paint to cover where all work was done, also helps hide the exhaust under the car. Works great and sounds great. I can post a video too but it sounds just like every other muffler delete, No poping, but a slight gurgling sound on decel. Definately a project though, if you have the money to have a shop just put in a pipe it would be cleaner and easier. but it was a fun and cheap project with great results

5 hours of work ............ I think I would just save up until I could go to a muffler shop for a clean replacement pipe for $50.

I did this more for the sake of having a project, im used to fixing up older cars and doing modifications, new cars dont need any work and its boring. I feel like the car is more my own now that ive done some work too it.

Also I bought a second stock exhaust to do this because I wanted to keep my original. So Its not like I've ruined anything if i decided to change my mind. I dont think anyone has done this yet, thats why I thought it was neat, just being resourceful.

damn looks like a lot of work I paid a $100 and it came out super clean, new pipe and new tips and I still have the stock mufflers saved if I ever have to put them back on ... good job though!

I'm thinking I might do the same with some slight differences. Do you think that if you used duct tape around the holes and secured it with baling wire it might hold?
I mean...that's the way MacGyver would do it.

Not bad I wonder if you could have covered the holes with some sort of band clamp.

It's also nice to see what the inside of the mufflers look like. It may not look great, but sounds great and you did what you wanted & that's all that matters...... |
