Paint chip correction before polishing?

I got a 6" Girot's DA polisher for Christmas and plan on using it real soon. I have a few very minor paint chips to correct. I would assume ( man, do I hate using that word) that the polishing will remove any excess paint used for filling in the chips, bringing it down to the level of the surrounding area. Is this a correct assumption? Also, since I will be using the DA polisher and not hand polishing, how long should I allow the paint to dry before polishing?

I'd also like to wish everyone a happy and safe New year!!!

Using the polisher alone will not remove the extra paint buildup. You will need to lightly sand the excess with 2000 or 3000 grit sand paper then use Griots #2 polish, then #3 polish.

Although the factory touch-up paint dries pretty quick, I would wait at least 24 hours before polishing.
