What kind of paint will work???

Posted this in the 1LE forum also. I got this made a by a friend and I am going to paint it to look like my car for car shows. What kind of paint will work to give it a high gloss automotive paint look? I dont think regular hobby paint will work. Any Ideas?

If it's wood I wouldn't paint it, I'd just do some highlights with stain then clear the whole thing.

You're not going to be able to make it look a high gloss car paint finish because of the wood grains.

I think I will go the stain route. Should still look good enough to display when showing my car. I am also doing one for a buddy who is retiring from the Military (a mustang though, I know sorry) so I am going to experiment with the stain on mine so his will turn out good.

You don't want to try and make it look just like your car. You know you will do changes to your car at different times and you wouldn't be able to make the change to this once it is done.

You could "Kiltz" it to seal the wood, then lightly sand it down to get rid of the rough spots. Then paint it as you like. Otherwise the wood grain will show through.

I would look at Marine Varnishes. A high gloss or a satin your choice. It is made for coating wood.

This is my original one he made in 2002. his skills have evolved. Think Ill try and color match the stain and maybe red accents.
