PTM modes
i was trying all the PTM modes today and noticed something in PTM 5. i have a automatic and from a stand still as soon as i go WOT the rpm raises and drops again and goes back up. anyone notice that? why is the ZL1 doing that anyone has an idea about it? do u think a tune will fix it?
thanks |

From what I have read and understand, even in mode 5, the car will dial the torque back for a split second to make it hook up better. From what I understand this is to make the car hook up better in corners resulting in better lap times.

That is launch control. You press pedal 100%, then the rpm goes up and then stabilizes at the ideal rpm to launch

Does it do this in other modes? I usually don't drive in PTM 5, so I'm not sure, but my auto doesn't do this when not using PTM modes. When I go WOT in this weather my tires start spinning so I back out.

Mode 5 is not everthing off. It is optimized for drag radials and a prepped surface if I remeber right. the dash light come on but that does not mean everthing is off.
for Launching I think all PTM modes blow. the old fashioned way is the fastest. modulate the power with the pedal on the right. the PTM modes are a good way to go very consistanly slower thant he car is capable of.

You're correct...the launch control does not work with an automatic. The PTM modes are all made and designed for road course racing. Even in mode 5, torque is dialed back for corner exits to give you better lap times. If you have a automatic and you want to go the old fashioned way, hold the traction control button down for 5 seconds and that eliminates the PTM modes completely...you're on your own. Then you can stomp it and it won't cut anything back and you can burn the tires off if that is what you want to do.

In the manual it may very well be, but in the auto there is no launch control. Either way mode 5 is programed to limit wheel slip for better grip off the corner.
