Reminder to Check Spoiler

I have 1700 miles on her and was washing her today. The 2 bolts on the drivers side of the spoiler were loose. Took 2 seconds to tighten up. Just a reminder to check it.

Scott "Fbodfather" said the falty torque wrench was replaced that was causing the issue. However this issue may still be occurring on newer VIN numbers.. Yours is 20942 and mine is 22517 and still had them loose.. So it is hard to tell when the problem was fixed..

I have the same exact problem. Not sure if I should fix it or take it to the dealer?

Replace the existing nuts with nylon locknuts and save yourself some future problems.

Yea, just fix it. It takes 2 minutes and avoids the hassle if you have to leave the car.

I found the same issue with my spoiler; all four nuts were loose, and I can hear a fith nut when I open and close the trunck.

I used permatex thread sealant/locker, hope this fixes the problem. If this does not fix the problem, I'll demand Chevrolet to replace them with nylon lock nuts.

I hope Chevrolet reads this thread, otherwise they will not change anything in thier manufacturing/assembly process.

Had the same thing on the drivers side. Noticed it was loose last time I washed it, figured I would have the dealer fix when I bring her in for a new bevel and sill plates. Unfortunately too late,..opened the trunk and heard one of the nuts ratteling inside. Easy fix to tighten yourself, now I just got to get the other one out.

To do it correctly, it will take a little bit longer than 2 minutes. There are 4 easily accessible bolts under plastic covers. However, there are two more bolts under the felt trunklid cover which requires the removal of several plastic pieces. They require a large flat fork or other utensil to pry out. I had a total of 3 bolts come off and fall into the trunk (two from the center under the cover, and one on the driver's side). Using nylon locknuts eliminates the problem.

This is the thread that first raised the spoiler bolt/nut issue that I recall http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29678. I didn't heed the warning and have one sliding up & down my trunk lid when opening/closing - I know the dealer service will fish it out - annoying in the meantime.

Check the rest of that thread for the discussion on changing the nuts to nylok fasteners.

YEP....I didn't heed the warnings and sure enough this weekend I noticed that lovely sound of a nut rattling around as i opened and closed the trunk....then it mysteriously stopped. I took it to the dealership this am to let them fish it out - besides I had a quarter panel not fitting flush for them look at as well.
