Motortrend's Camaro HPE650/SuperSnake/Speedfactory Challenger SRT8
Here's a comparison from Motortrend:
Youtube: Article: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/index.html Cliff's Notes: 1) Camaro HPE650--612 RWHP 2) 2010 Supersnake--635 RWHP 3) Challenger Speedfactory--454 RWHP Interesting to me are the relatively low trap MPH for the Camaro and Supersnake. These cars are in the 6.3 lbs / rwhp range. They have way better power/weight ratios than what their trap speeds indicate. For example, a Gen III viper is about 7.5 lbs / rwhp and traps ~122ish. Anyways, I'd rather have the supersnake. It has that "it" factor. |

Nice find .... as far as low trap speeds .. hp/weight ratio isn't the only thing involved, (arodynamics etc) but they do seem low for that much HP. I suspect it is because they are on street tires and had traction issues (wheel hop or just plain no traction). When you can't give it your all in 1st and 2nd gear, you won't get your max MPH or ET for sure (I know ... lol).

As always with any GT500 style car, to much power for the shoes. I never understand why they come or run on those rubberbands. My car makes 450 and I would never try to run on my Nitto's 555. I know they would never hold up on a track.

Not so much a defense. The tester says over & over that traction hurt the mustang in every test. So basically it needs better meat. You put rubber bands on the Camaro and it would slip and slide as well. I commend Henn/GM for putting tires on the Camaro worth a dam, and do not understand why Shelby did not do the same..
I run what the Ford SS does in the article in my GT with drag radials....@450ish RWHP. I would say that traction is truly a issue. As he said in the video, you can 750 HP or 75, but it does not mean anything if you cannot put it to the pavement. The Henn car did that very well. |

Nice find. Looks like any way you go, Camaro, GT500 or Challenger, you can get astronomical performance out of them with the correct selection of parts/builder.

Very good point. Not so much a defense but a rant on Ford and Shelby. Who was the brilliant genius who decided to put those skinny tires on these cars. Plus they grip like power wheel tires on glass. Shelby was worse after giving the car 700+hp and not putting a decent set of tires back there. (OK rant over) |
