CLUNKING NOISE
Probably not the right section to post this in but couldn't find a category for it so here goes...
I have about 4000 miles on my 2012 automatic SS and recently have been hearing a clunking noise when making sharp right hand turns. Best way to describe it a clunking or knocking noise. I pretty much narrowed it down to the front end, I think the driver side front. Anyways I'm bringing it in tomorrow but I thought maybe I'd get a jump start to people's guesses on this? Thanks for the help.. Eric B. |

Trunk monkey stored incorrectly?
But seriously, most likely it's something with your suspension that isn't interacting with the rest of it incorrectly. |

I have heard that as well and I believe that it might be the books and stuff in the glove compartment. I know it kind of sounds crazy but I cant imagine what else it could be.

If its when you turn its power steering problems. Check the fluid under the engine covor (unless a V8 is different there should be one) or rack and pinion, or maybe even a wheel bearing. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out. It's under warranty

I had the issue coming from the passenger side rear of my car... took it to the dealer, they replaced the shock... 30 feet after pulling away, it was back. They then said "oh, it could be the bushings for xxx" (I don't remember what for, hence the x's). So they replaced them, noise is back. If anyone finds out what the clunk is with certainty, for the love of God, please post it.... it's driving me nuts.

If its a strut lift the hood, stand to the side and push up and down on the car if you feel or hear a clink the strut/spring is bad. If not its could be a wheel bearing or the rack and pinion if it has one

Mine does it from the driver left rear.
If you are in a parking lot doing a tight circle you can hear it constant.

Thanks for all the replys... mine is definitely coming from the front somewhere and it only happens on sharp right hand turns not left. It almost sounds like something is broken, who knows maybe bushing, tie rod , bearing etc....
Well hopefully they can identify it tomorrow and not try and blame any mods I have, LOL......... I will post back tomorrow afternoon and let you guys know how I make out... |

I look forward to hearing the result. I think I have a wheel bearing going out on mine, I heard a loud squealing when turning right and I also get a little play in the steering when getting up above 60mph.
I'll be having it checked out next time I am over at the dealer.
