Is there any kind of market for our cars right now?
Hey guys i'm just wondering, is there anyone out there looking for Camaro's? I understand that it is winter but will demand go up in early spring? Is it best to just go ahead and trade the car in?

I am betting demand will improve come spring. $4/gal gasoline and cold temps dont help your cause.
As for trading, you gotta provide some details like what you are trading for, what they are offering for your car and what do you owe on it. One way to look at it is definitely more convenient to trade in. Is that better? Not by itself because you pay a price in trade value for that convenience. |

I'm looking to trade for a 2006 Duramax truck. I have spoke with quite a few dealers, the best offer so far is $21,000 for the car. I don't owe anything on the car. I would definitely rather sell the car out right and get another $3000 over trade in but haven't gotten much response.

Consider listing it on sites like Auto trader, Cars.com. There is a fee but you will get way more exposure than here.
At least Check what they have listed and compare your pricing. |

do you pay sales tax on the full amount or just the difference between the trade and new truck? (each state is different, which is why I am asking)
If you just pay tax on the difference, then trading should save you another 1500 to 2000 depending on tax rate |

I live in IL so I would only pay a tax on the difference. The dealership that gave me that trade in offer sold the truck I was looking at. Today I was offered $19,000 on trade. My car is a 2010 2LT RS with 26,600 miles on it. I'm not in too big of a hurry to trade it at the moment. Kinda rather wait for a private sale to develop even if it takes another month.

19K sounds very low for a trade-in price but average for a private sell price. Some SS's are going for as low as 21K. I did not look at what features yours has but sight unseen I have been offered 18.5K and I have a stripped down 1LS. If you know exactly what truck you want my advice is go to 3 or 4 different dealers and see how different the offers are. I once traded in a 95 Berretta, took it to 4 different dealers and got 4 very different offers $400 $2900 while shopping for exactly the same car with the same features.

You can buy a 2SS at auction for 24-26k with less than 10,000 miles on it.
The 1SS are actually about the same. These are 2010 prices. I'm trying to buy one from this forum, but prices are high here. Also, Blue seems to be the cheapest color. I noticed that modded cars prices are outrageous on this forum. Still looking though... |
