Polishing process between stripe and pin stripe
I am going to be getting my porter cable this week and wanted to see what the process is for fixing the swirl marks between the vinyl Camaro stripe and the vinyl pin stripe next to it. The gap is only about a 1/4 inch of paint but I can see swirl marks in my paint in this location. Do I just tape off both sides just exposing the 1/4 inch gap and run the porter cable on this position? Running the porter cable on the tape over the vinyl stripe will not mess up my vinyl stripe right? I have never done this before and I thought is safer to ask then to just try it out myself.

yeah definitely tape up.
This is one of those times when I say good enough is good enough. Trying too hard for perfection can lead to damaging something else. Also try hand polishing that area as it's not super large.

The 1/4 inch gap runs the length of the hood on both sides and the trunk as well. I was hoping someone had tried to tape up the stripe and had success in getting swirl marks out of this small gap.

That's what I'm saying you can do that. Just don't hammer on it all day looking for perfection, because that might cause more trouble than the swirls are worth.

go for it
If you have enough tape, double taping isn't a bad idea either

Use some type of finger applicator for areas like that with tape over the pin striping/rally stripe.
