I went with the convertible. The hard top is a great car but for me putting the top down gives me more enjoyment and I live in a cold weather area. But you have to decide for yourself you really can't go wrong with either one.

Saw the new vert after the LA and fell in love and placed an order as soon my dealer could. I'm replacing my G6 GTP hardtop vert...no more fwd and torque steer. I live in Alberta so the top down driving is limited but I still think it's worth it. Can't wait till spring!

I would buy the vert for now, since you're in Socal and enjoy the warm California weather until the Z comes out then I'd trade that vert in on a Z when I get ready to move to Idaho.
Problem Solved!

I, personally, wouldn't like to get a convertible. Let's say for some reason you get into an accident. At fault or not, what if the crash sends your car upside down for some reason? A hard-top solid roofing would hold up and take the impact better than a convertible. But that's just my personal view. I'd feel safer in a hard-top.

That might be harder than you think...

Go with your gut, if you can picture yourself cruising down the beach in a convertible, just picture yourself on not-so-nice days with the top up driving in traffic
I doubt the heater will be an issue in the winter, unsure on road noise -after driving a Jeep for years, it can't be loader than that -and the thickness of the denim/vinyl they use now is almost hard top quite

Wow your responses were awesome to say the least. Many great points brought up that I have not considered. I guess I will just wait and outweigh the options after I come back from my deployment. Since I did discuss performance as being on my list, would supercharging a convertible make sense?? How about adding a roll-bar to improve rollover safety?

My convertible will definitely have some sort of forced induction, eventually. I was thinking of doing a 5 point roll bar in mine but am not to fond of losing the rear seats functionality.
