Dying Vararam Air Filter Element?

Wasn't sure if this was best posted here or in the Cosmetics forum. Anybody know if it's possible to dye the air filter element, and if so, where to purchase the dye? I want to dye my filter element orange. Thanks for any info.

You have to clean the filter, then dye it. let it dry and then reoil it

I was thinking of dying mine an ABM color (Aqua Blue) and matching it with an ABM Rx Catch can, on a black car - what do you guys think?

Hmm.....

Is it safe to use Rit dye to dye the filter? The oil kits at green filter's website are bit pricey, and after looking them over they don't appear to have Orange kits currently available.

The Rit Dye suggestion came directly from Green Filter. You still need to buy a cleaning/re-oiling kit to be able to dye the filter, even if you use the one with clear oil. You can't dye an oiled filter, it must be cleaned first.

As for pricing, it's right in line with what you'd pay for a K&N cleaning/re-oil kit. I think less than $12 is very reasonable.

They do have orange available - bottom of this page: http://www.airfiltersonline.com/index.php?categoryID=80

I must have been looking at something else on Green Filters site because the prices I was seeing were like $30 - $40. Maybe this was for a kit with an already colored filter? $12 isn't bad at all. Thanks for the link

I want to know if you dyed your filter yet?

I didnt know I had to wash the oils away, so I took a new filter and dyed it red with Tulip dyes, its just like using rid dyes. The original color I ordered is red but its not a dark red its like pink. So I dyed it for more time it said on the box, 3 hours and it turned out violet.
But as the filter was (cooking) I noticed oil, thats when I went on line and found out they using colored oil. Now I dont know what to do.

I used Rit dye to do mine...I also bought an orange oil kit, so I just washed mine using the kit, then dyed it, then once it dried, oiled it with the orange oil kit
