So, is the ZL1 "issue" one of component supply limitations (MR, 'chargers for LSAs, Brembos, etc.), or is GM simply being very cautious as they ramp up the ZL1? On the other hand, they haven't even released a PRICE yet, and the world is going crazy over "lists" that have evaporated...

Does a mid-$40s track-oriented, n/a ZEE make even MORE sense, now? Would it ease the angst being created by a short-supply ZL1, and give Oshawa another Model to keep showroom traffic/sales rolling??
YES!

Agreed comrade. But, it would be nice to be able to order a car without hassle and get it delivered without anxiety or negotiatng skills. Point, click, ship.

Sure, that would be nice ... but initial demand makes it impossible. No way around it, other than paying suppliers to tool up for 5x the nominal production volume, then let the work slow down to a trickle after a month. That gets to be very expensive

Unfortunately for GM (and others), the scenario described generally ALSO comes...with a REBATE...although I do recall ordering a 2SS in May/09 (at the height of previous Camaro commotion...) and it arrived in 8 weeks (blank order to car on the ground). 'Course, that was through a very well-connected dealer...who got us GMS pricing!

[in best Elvis voice] Thank you...thank you very much!

My all-time record for delivery, order-to-dealer, was 17 days...and that unit had to travel 600 miles by train and truck...musta been sittin' in the yard, "hopin'..."

Understood,.. thanks for helping me get my thoughts centered back. I admit I have gotten too impatient.

To order something with relative ease, get a rebate on top of it, and have it delivered in 8 weeks is like having one's cake and eating it too!

Agreed...but NOT what we're likely to see for a certain "ultimate Camaro", even with price currently unknown...

I wouldn't be a bit surprized to see some of the units ordered, now, being converted to "Stock" orders or open to others on "the lists", after the price is announced, 11/15. I think there will be some folks changin' their minds...and "lists" changing.

On another note:

The lower the demand for a "volume" unit (especially if dealer inventories grow too large) and the slower the "sales rate", the more likely the rebate is...and, generally, the quicker the turnaround time from order to dealer door. If dealer orders stall, turnaround time shrinks.

On the other hand, a "mature" model often has production schedules adjusted to the "modern reality", too...or shuffled off to "Fleet"...which, of course, is a "rebate" of a slightly different sort.

ALL these factors make me glad I'm not responsible for "Production Planning"...
