A different internet salesman emailed me yesterday to see if I was still in the market. I told him that I was, and he tried to convince me that I was way off on the price. I showed him a recent ebay auction for a '14 with AC with 3000 fewer miles on it that was within 4 hours of my home (they are 2) that had a "buy it now" price of $42.5 that received 0 bids nation wide! During our conversation they actually relisted it with a new but it now price of $41.5K! He said shipping would be $1500 (I have an enclosed trailer), the market would be higher in a couple of months (I told him it was currently January with highs in the single digits and the new owner wouldn't even be able to drive the car off the lot, etc. He then sent an email that asked what my offer was, if I was paying cash, etc...but they never countered my original offer. I was going to think about it for the weekend, but before the afternoon was finished another salesman/manager chimed in and said "We aren't interested in low ball offers" What the hell...am I missing something here. I emailed that person back and said "you didn't even counter my offer. Good luck with your sale." I emailed the original salesman this morning and told him that whoever that was, their attitude cost him a sale.

The search goes on.

I'm with you in this one , they have a car on the lot that they want to sale with a price tag , that apparently no one until now is interested on
Two things will happen , they will find someone willing to pay for what they are asking for
Or they will have to adjust the price tag to match the existing market conditions and sale the car
Or the dealer will just keep it on their lot until it rust away slowly
All of this is called market economy , if more that one person wants the some product , the price goes up , if no one wants that product that bad , then the price will eventually drop , simple as that

If a dealer has a car at $45 that means they have at least $40-41 in it. They didn't counter you because you're too far apart. No point.

Dealers will take cars back to auction at a loss before they'll let anyone get a deal and go below their margins.

I would guess that car cannot be bought for less than $43.5.

I sold my house last July. I was in a very competitive section of the market and up against a lot of new construction (my house was built in 2001). The first offer I had was for for 84% of the listed price! I wanted to have my realtor tell the guy to shove his offer up his...but instead, I countered. They countered back and said that was absolutely as high as they could go...and they wanted to keep some of my furniture! Even though they said they couldn't go any higher, I countered again because I couldn't accept their current offer. Do you know what happened? I SOLD MY HOUSE for 93% of list!
I expected them to counter my original offer and I would have paid more than my original offer, but they didn't. Their BS attitude got in the way and cost them a sale. If they bought this car at auction for over $39K I would be very surprised, but that is my opinion based on what I have seen in the market.

I see nothing wrong with your approach at all. Negotiation has to be a two-way street or it doesn’t work. Dealers have no qualms about asking way above what they will ultimately accept. Therefore, when a potential customer makes an offer, it makes no sense to be offended and not counter. If they can ask more than they’ll take, we can offer less than we’ll give. Pretty simple.

When I bought my new ‘15 in September 2016, it was on the dealer’s web site at $69,919! I requested an e-price expecting them to come back around $65k at which time I was going to politely tell them to enjoy their car since they would never sell it. Instead, they came back at $52k which told me they were serious about selling it. I would guess their advertised price probably kept some people from even asking. I offered $48k hoping to split the difference and they came back at $50k and I bought myself a sweet car.

I think this dealer is making a big mistake in not keeping you engaged. There aren’t buyers for these cars everyday and they should be happy they have someone interested. Good Luck!

I just looked up Manheim market report for 2015 Zs. 6 sold nationwide since Oct, all with under 10k miles are over $40k. Add buyers fees to that.

I just bought (October 2017) a 2015 Z/28 w/ air and radio option with 2700 miles. They had it listed at 50K initially. I offered 42.5K and ended up getting it for 44.5K The car is mint.

Your dealer must not have been an A-hole.

I'm too anal to have a black car, but thanks for the link! My Boss is red, GT350 is gray, and my 69 firebird will be white with blue stripes....all colors that still look ok when the car is dirty! If I find a z/28, it will have to be red or white.

I purchased my mint stock 2015 Z/28 w/air/radio with 1400 miles last May. It came with a new uninstalled roll cage and back seat delete. Gave roll cage to the old man for scrap. Seller had it listed at 52k initially. I offered 48K and settled on 49K.
