It's over 'ere
The hugger orange convertible was in London (well, it's probably on it's way back to the US now) at the ExCel show over the past couple of weeks. I went to see it and I was impressed to say the least - well, except it's bigger than my house (why are new cars so damned big?).
Anyway, Pistonheads has a bunch of pics to look at. Mine aren't there but you've seen the car many time already! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...re%20Challange In any case - the "specialist" there told me it's coming in 2010 for less than £30,000 and we'll only get the SS (though it may end up without the badge!).

great pics..but, thats a concept. It is an awesome car. Neat to notice the difference in the hood stripes between these pics and the Camaro that was shown on the CNBC show last night (in the States).

Um, I know it's the concept - we won't see the production car here until 2010. It's just nice to see a Camaro of any kind in the United Kingdom

Top Gear is the opinions of 3 guys and has an image to maintain. They do not represent all Brit's

Hi Dan
Can't believe the Camaro concept finally made it to the UK and I couldn't get to the show Glad it impressed you in the metal. As for Brits hating US cars? Sure, there are plenty of ignorant folk out there that haven't tried one for themselves, but there are also a load of us that love 'em. Oh, and Hammond (from Top Gear) owns and loves his '68 GT390 Fastback Mustang, and he also used to own a '69 Charger. I'm sure a few of the better known US car importers in the UK will be getting hold of early LHD Camaros not long after release, and I'll be down there to drool all over them What I find ironic is that if the Camaro is sold through official Chevy dealers over here, just look at the ugly tat that's going to be in the same showroom with it!! Hmm, Camaro or crappy little pram-like rebadged Daewoo? (see puny silver car in the background). You just know you'd get one as a courtesy car when the Camaro is in for servicing!!! |

I spent some time taking the mick out of the Dai... sorry, Chevys on the stand and the staff were not at all impressed with me! My point was that anyone "not in the know" would go in to the (probably 3 dealers) dealer to buy some dull car that's outclassed by every other manufacturer only to see this great big American beast sat there waiting to eat their children.. they simply did not understand me.
Worse still, the specialist there compared the last Camaro to my Monaro saying it was "far more stable and handled much better"... say what? - I hastened to add that this new Camaro has more in common with my Monaro than the last-gen Camaro... so you can expect the dealers over here to be clueless when we go nosing the real thing in 2 years.... As for the "I thought you British hated American cars" comment.. yes, there are 60 million of us here and every single last one of us hates the US car industry. Lmao. No - I LOVE the Corvette, the Camaro - I really like the Mustang and the Challenger and have always liked big yank metal - bring it on!

I had forgotten how striking that car is... been looking at IVER cars and prodution models for so long that seeing the 'vert Concept made me remember the first time I saw it... its an awesome car and I think even some of the Top Gear guys are going to like the production car... they'll bash it being heavy and they'll talk about plastic interior pieces... and then they'll be driving one to work when they have one free to drive... lol

You guys should look up my all-time favorite Top Gear episode.
The one with the Ford GT40. where clarkson drolls over it for days and even makes a cash bet (which he wins) that the Ford will beat every Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Etc. on the top gear track. And at the end of the episode, after the Ford GT beats all the European super cars, they argue that it doesnt get good gas milage, and is hard to get in and out of. I laughed so hard. Silly britts got their Arses handed to them and they struggled so hard to find something bad about it. |

That GT40 episode was pretty good. I've been watching what they have has to say about the VXR and Monaro to get a feel for what they will say about the Camaro. 13, in the city. 18 highway. Much less when you stomp on it (I assume).
