I've been caught in the rain in mine, but if there's a good chance of rain I'll leave it at home. It's too much trouble to wash two dirty black cars if I can avoid it.

I used to kid with a member of our Camaro club because he (like some of you) wouldn't even THINK about taking the car out of the garage unless the weather forcast was for clear skys for the next three days.

He explained to me that it wasn't really the rain coming down, it was the water kicking up from the road getting the under carrage wet.

But then he told me of another guy he knew that would actually crawl under his car with a pocket mirror on a long rod to examine and clean the TOPS of his mufflers.

Now tha's getting just a wee bit OCD as far as I'm concerned, but then again I'm THE guy that figures, 'it's just a car. it won't actually melt in the rain'

Everybody treats them differently. One question, if it's just a car, why not settle for an '85 Escort, an '87 Caravan or maybe go top notch with a new Chevy Spark? It's just a car right? Who cares what kind of vehicle it is, it's simply a form of transportation.

I take pride in what I own (not to say others don't), so mine stays in the garage until it's sunny outside.

I'm beginning to think it's an age thing. After being around for almost 60 years now and surviving multiple heart attacks, I've learned not to sweat the little things. That doesn't mean I don't take pride in the things I have. I wash my cars every week, but I also won't think twice about jumping in one of them and run out to the store if it's raining. For me life is short, I would rather spend my time driving my cars rather than just look at them.

Funny that you should mention that. As a matter of fact I DID have a heart attack 4 years ago, and I just took delivery of my ZL1 Vert on the day before my 60th birthday.

Yes, at our age you do have a tendancy to look at things a bit differently. and your priorities change.

As you say, I still take great pride in my car, I just don't feel the need to get as OCD as some people do.

Yes, for us old farts that have reached the halfway point of life or more, we like to enjoy the days we have left. Maxine got rained on a lot on the way to CF3 and then back. She sat in the frozen tundra for months before I got her so I figure a little sunshine and rain has to be better than being frozen solid. Enjoy life, drive the car, it wants to be driven. Don't believe me, listen to the exhaust it will tell you that it wants to go out and play.

No worries your not alone
If I see dark clouds I leave mine in the garage which is airconditioned and heated I will keep the garage at 65F this winter.
I'm going to put her away for the winter this year as I'm not willing to take anymore stone chips its bugging the h##l out of me.
I need to fix them and have a clear bra installed.

You can take pride in your car and still think of it as "just a car". It is one bad ass car that is a blast to drive to work and on the track, but in the end, YES it is "just" a car. As stated, this is my DD, I love it, clean it constantly, but will not call in sick to work ED it rains. It is "just" a car. I have more important things to worry about in life, like my wife and two kids, than cleaning the underside of a 2012 Chevy every time I roll over a wet spot in the road. I will have the thing for a few years, drive the piss out of it (roadcourse included), clean it many times in between, and then sell it and move on. Your statement implies that you cannot take pride in your vehicle if you drive it ED rain or shine which I take offense to.

The thing that bothers me the most, and this is just me..... I hate the bottom of the car and engine compartment getting messed up from wet roadway. For me also its not just a car, God Bless all that can drop the 60k and think of it as just another car. Everyone is diffrent I just like my toys to be spotless top and bottom.

Regardless, you would have never known the difference either way. Wheather it was sitting in snow for two months, or rained on one day before delivery, you would never be able to tell the difference.

Perhaps you have a reading comprehension problem.

My statement clearly says, "I take pride in the things I own (not to say others don't)...". What I said in no way, shape or form says you have to lock the car in your garage, put a boot on the wheel and keep it underneath 5 car covers to "care" about it or "take pride in it". Everybody treats them differently. With that being said, I don't care if you buy a Z ($60,000) and drive it in the rain, snow, sleet, hail, mud, slop, drive it to the store and park in between 2 handicapped spots, park it next to a cart return, allow it to sit outside 24/7 having the scorching sun eat the paint off of it, etc., etc., etc.. It's the owner's deal. Everybody treats them differently and I'm sure most owners take pride in their cars. FYI: I suppose the apple doesn't fall from the tree. My Dad bought his ZL1 after he retired on his 55th Birthday this past year as a gift to himself. It stays in the garage, covered, waiting for a sunny to bring it out and play. My SS Vert does the same. Enjoy your cars guys and girls!

I was OCD about my SS when I first bought it. Then when I moved to Florida, I had to drive it daily and it sat outside for 6 months. I had to let go of "OMG I have a tiny scratch from the towel or a drop of rain". And the crazy thing was I enjoyed the car more once I stopped all the OCD behavior.

My ZL1 is first and foremost a car. It is my daily driver. Heck pulling out of the dealership it started raining. Not a sprinkle but a down pour. Then it rained every day for a week and a half. Car drives fine in the rain BTW. I did wash it the first dry day. Also I still park away from other cars if I can.

Enjoy the car whichever way works for you. For me it is to drive it.

Those who drive their ZL1 daily can certainly have as much pride in ownership of it as those who treat their ZL1 as a garage queen. But those who plan on keeping their ZL1 until they die certainly have way more pride in ownership than those for whom it is planned as just a temporary possession.
