Question Camaro Comparison

I would like to see if anyone can help with comparision or contrast between the New Gen Camaro and the already released GTO. I am trying to write an article for a local car club and need some more input from reliable sources on what the Camaro will offer and have as a standard in options but I cant seem to get much from the net. I guess I am not looking in the right spots. Can you point me in the correct direction. Thanks

PS I SOOOOOO cant wait for the Camaro Convertable to be released.

It's going to be very difficult for your article since GM hasn't released ANYTHING about the new camaro. We don't know what trim levels, how many engines, or anything else for that matter other than first quarter '09 and that it's on Zeta platform with IRS and will have a vert. They're keeping this hush hush and it's killing most if not all of us.

Your best bet would be to write a speculative article, based on what you read on the Net...we've got a few threads going about what we'd like to put in there. You could also probably use some common sense when looking at Future GM vehicles that have had options/powertrains released (i.e. G8, Malibu...etc)

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Here's a comparison for ya on the GTO vs the 4th Gen....

GTO: GVWR 3900lbs
4th Gen Z28: GVWR 3700lbs
4th Gen SS: GVWR 3400lbs

This was according to my Austin laptop return on my Z28, SS, and some unknown LS1 GTO (ran it on the roads). That GTO seems awfully heavy. I'm sure that 5th Gen will weigh less...but just how much.

...3700? I never realized how heavy the 4th gen Z was! Cause of the engine?

Well....if I remember right, when I put it on the scale at the racetrack (SAR), it was a lot less than 3700. This was the weight that was registered w/ the DMV for the car. I dunno...but I took these straight off the DMV returs the other day. I was suprised that the GTO was a couple hundred pounds heavier than the Z28. It didn't mean to make sense.

I guess the only way to really tell is to get it back out to the track and put it on the scale. I'll have to LYK, but don't have any clue when that'd be. I don't plan on racing it anytime soon.

Cool
I have heard the GTO was a 'fat' car. 3900lbs, is not an uncommon number on GTO boards...
