What is my car?

Back when I was a car nut, I had a 98 SS M6 hardtop. I could tell you anything about those cars and the options available.

I now have a 2010 SS, purchased used.

M6, leather, no NAV, but it has HIDs. However, I can't control the fog lamps/DRLs. Is this just standard for a 2SS? It would be nice to have the stock halos on with the DRLs just because it looks so cool, but no dice.

Since you have HID's (Projector Headlights and Halos), your foglamps act as Daytime Running Lights. You cannot control those, unless you wire them up to act as foglights.

Sounds like you have a 2010 2SS/RS. The only way to control them seperately is to get an aftermarket DRL harness. I have installed one on my car and I can control the DRL/fog lamps as I like.

Turning the switch to the left of the steering wheel to the right once will turn your Halos on but also other lights as that is your "Parking lights"

Thanks for the info, folks. I'm gonna cruise through the DIY and see if I can wire something up to get the halos to come on with the DRL's.

There are numerous companies that make the harnesses such that you have the control you want/need. There are a few vendors here that sell them as well.

Sounds like you have a 2SS/RS LS3 (Since yours is a M6). Like said above because of the RS package (the HIDs are the main part) you dont have fog lamps you technically have Day Time Running Lamps or DRLs. The only way to get them to work with your headlights is to buy a harness which Ofer (2ssrs on Camaro5 i believe) at Gen5diy sells.

Thank you for the link!

Unfortunately, even wimple wiring is beyond my ability. I can turn wrenches and machine engines/heads, but if you were closer, I'd offer a case of your favorite beverage to assist.

There is a couple other things to look for to see which 2010 you have. First off there was an option for Polished wheels. That should be pretty easy to determine. If you wheels are a medium gray they will be the Midnight Silver wheels that come stock on an RS. If they look shinney but not quite chrome you probably have the polished wheels.

Also, look to see if you have the rear sensors in your bumper. If you don't then you have the early 2010 model. In that case you should have the little GM chicklets at the bottom of the fenders and you'll have a GM Perfomance tag around the radiator area.

If you want to know when your car was built, just take a flashlight, open the hood and rignt under the fuse box on the frame you'll find a sticker with code bars, this will show you exactly the date the car was built.

As for me if the SS logos in front and back are chrome and red, thats a 2ss RS. If it's chrome and white you have a non RS.

All of this is correct. Door tag build date tells me August of 2009, so it's a super SUPER early 2010 model year. Also, since it's so early, I don't have rear warning sensors, which makes me happy because they're an eyesore IMO.

Wheels are grey, not polished, but they're getting painted or powdercoated matte black anyway.

Thanks again everyone, I knew I'd like it here.

Side chicklets are a dead give away of an early 2010.
