You could order a COPO ZL1 with many options. Some ordered it with the RS package and I believe a couple were ordered with a Z28-like suspension package. Yes rare, but done.

Also make no mistake the ZL1 was to be the Z28 until it was understood that it really didn't reflect the return to the Camaro's origins. Most powerful 12' = Most powerful 69'

I also have to believe there will be a 5Gen Z28 due to the fact that they named the 1LE the 1LE. Why not just name it a Z28? Because the Z28 is going to be something more!

Trouble is they used a certified motor, the LSA, and did everything else underneath it to make it a be all to end all Camaro to satisfy every component of high performance and make it as dominating as possible across all fronts of the racing scene. Trouble is, due to power and weight ratio, it's underpowered. Why not up the power? Because of cost effectiveness, certification, and GM's long running approach with not telling the engine shop to upgrade a standing model vertified motor. GM does not upgrade motors, they make new ones. Off the shelf has, and is, the way to do things at GM with motors. Ford is different. We discussed this motor situation until blue in the face. fbodfather has explained all this to us about the expense, time factor, and lenghty envolvement it takes to bring a change to market with GM engines and the certification behind it. Certification. We have to dance with who brought us to the prom. As far as Z/28 goes, GM made enough cabbage over time on the LS7 program to make a balls to wall final exit of the current 1LE model powered by the LS7 at cost and kick Ford in the pants.

Does it really matter? Whatever was or was not done, it is still not a Z/28, nor will it ever be, and I'll leave it at that.

Just curious. I know it's not and will never be a Z/28.

Clones are fine when the "real" car is too expensive or too rare, however in this case what is it a clone of? It's more of a tribute, but to what degree? Each beholder has to answer that.

I doubt this is the only 5th gen Camaro badged with Z28. I don't mind guys mixing and matching other parts from other models but the fake badging drives me crazy.

My car is a 2SS/RS and I'm proud to strut it as such. Now the bowties are another story, let's just say I hate them on these cars..
