The messy part will be if you didn't update the physical location of the vehicle on the policy or if you had converted the policy to a "stored" vehicle.[/QUOTE]
Insurance hasn't said anything about that, so hopefully it's not an issue.

Nobody who called me a friend and knew me would ever think twice about seriously moving my car, it is bizarre!

I'm sorry but this shows an absolute lack of respect for you by your "friend". Its not that he wrecked your car - I work at a body shop and accidents happen. Its the fact that he took your car without your permission and had the ignorance to have an open beverage container in it. If he could not reach you, then he should never have taken the car... period.
If he is a true friend he will either have his insurance pay for it or pay for it himself, your insurance should not be involved at all. Personally this would be the end of that friendship but thats just me...

Supplemental estimate is in, it's going to be an additional 5K which brings the total up to 12K. Still waiting on the insurance to approve the additional work, so my car is just sitting in the shop with the entire front end, hood, and fenders removed. After all of the emotions and dealing with my friend, now I just want my car back....I miss driving her.

since he took your car so easily when he couldn't get a hold of you. I'd be interested in how many times he's been around the "block" in your car

Scenario.........You call up your friend whose been kind enough to allow you to use his garage as the hidding place of your new pride and joy. He's not home at the time, fact is, no one is. You've got a strong desire to take her out for a drive, its a sunny and glorious day in the neighborhood........... The thought dawns on you that, you know where he keeps his emergency home key, fact is he showed you and doesn't have any problems with you visiting or entering his home. Your best friends after all........What harm would it do to go ahead on over take her out for a spin.....and you do , returning it to its resting place shortly afterwards, and leave to continue your days activities elsewhere.......nary a care in the world.
What would have happened if your friends home would have burned to the ground of no accord of their own and he was unable to rescue your ride from the garage. Later you found out that he was able to remove his vehicle safely, its a rusty old beater that his dad bought new in 1965, the memories are priceless.......... yet circumstances prevented him from getting your sparkling darling out. In the aftermath he informs you that his homeowners policy had been canceled. Would you share the same sorts of feelings....that somehow he had betrayed your trust? Scenario conclusion. A few days later.........Your friend calls you up and informs you that the Fire Marshalls investgative report has determined that the fire that completely destroyed his home, began in the garage and the root cause of the fire has been traced to a smoltering plastic bag which apparently had been road debri that had attached itself to your cars exhaust system while you taking her out for a spin....................... Best friends at the basic's are relationships developed with another person on the premises of an unconditional sort of love. The same sort love we have for our parents, siblings and children. This isn't the time to toss the baby out with the bath water. Friends make inadvertant mistakes like all other humans do, including family members and unless someone proved that the results of his driving the car were planned with forethought and malious, its time to forgive and forget it........handle the details, like an adult and move forwards. Good Luck......................... |

Update
Got a few pictures from the body shop. They are estimating a completion date of 8/20 (that's 2 months for those of you how are counting).
And yes we are still friends....although the relationship has been a bit strained lately.
