Do Steering Wheel Controls Work with Aftermarket Headunits???

I had planned on add the steering wheel radio controls to my 1LT. But also plan on installing a double din head-unit and the metra kit along with subs and replacing all of the interior speakers.

My only question is, if I do install the steering wheel controls and get the dealer to reprogram the computer with them, when I replace the head-unit with the aftermarket one, will those steering wheel controls still be functional???

Thanks,
ZaBeast07

if you get the metra install kit, all your functions will be retained. it makes the install so much easier because so many functions work trough that head unit...

You need an aftermarket deck that has a wired remote input in order for the axxess interface to control it.

Yes, on the specs, there is "Remote Jack : Optional wired remote terminal" listed. That's what you need.

I'm confused from reading different things about Metra retaining all factory functions, and other people talking about aftermarket interfaces and certain stereo requirements..

so, not all radios will maintain steering wheel controls?

do you need an aftermarket interface for certain ones? any radio?

are there stereos that have NO chance of it ever working?
