Soooo unhappy with the paint on our cars
made a 500 mile trip last weekend, to visit my God-daughter and her family. Drove, of course.
The 5 Gen is a nice car to drive on a trip. Anyway, we went to a really great butcher shop. When we left (had taken my car) we put the steaks in the trunk. The butcher paper brushed the paint on the rear bumper. I spent an hour buffing out the scratches Holy crimony, what the F paint system was used? Water based paints don't have to suck this bad. I have painted car parts with a rattle can of color and clear that have had more durability. I mean, honestly, it's not a real-world paint job. Complete disgust.

Seriously. I am considering saving money so that my first big "mod" is an actual paint job

I was actually going to post a thread regarding that, because the paint on our cars are so sensitive. If we go to a bodyshop and get it repainted, would it make a difference or what? Black cars cant possibly be this terrible -_-

I think you are the only person I've seen that traded a SS for V6. Whatever makes you happy!

The butcher paper never touched the paint. Modern clearcoat would be the culprit. However, it also buffs out pretty well.

Incidentally, I trained in a pro body shop run by my godfather and was in the car restoration hobby for 20 years You're perfectly correct, but the correction is needless; I'm confident we all understand that cars have clearcoat

Thats why I'm planning to wrap mine in a few years. I figured by then the paint will be so bad it'll need something done to it. Its absolute crap, worst complaint I have

Water based, two-stage, acrylic urethane is used industry wide now. All the car forums are complaining about the fragile, crappy paint.
You can blame our government and the EPA for our "green save the planet" paint systems. |
