Guys!! Did you watch the video? Watch it again and again please!! Conditions were far from ideal.
The track was 80% damp with light rain on 25% of the lenght.what do you expect?

Watch the slides at 4:36' and past the 6 minute mark, he's on light throtle. He oversteer of out corners 3 times due to water and at the most important turn right before the back strait. He completly miss is acceleration and has to lift. So I say that we did not see the top end speed it could off done.

All in all...about 3 seconds off would be fair. 7:35.00 would be the ideal time I think.
None the less he drove like an animal and my hats off to his 7:37.47 in damp conditions. Great job team chevy!!

Now you know why some Manufacturers (Ford, for instance) does not release 'Ring times. "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" comes to mind.

Too many variables, here, to establish any sort of concrete conclusions, other than this RWD car has laid down a pretty damned admirable time. It's NOT about the time, it's going to be ALL about the driving experience. Driver input. Driver control. Driver reward.

This, in my mind, means "Ultra Mega Perma-Grin". And those who buy this car, for the purposes Chevy created it, will NOT be short-changed and/or unappreciative...

1. Balls of steel on the driver, kudos!
2. I was disappointed to read the time...before I watched the video.
3. Cold + rain = 3 more secs shaved on a "perfect" day- :34.5
4. The engine sounds fantastic!
5. It looks like a heavy car :-(
6. It doesn't look like it wants to kill you (a la Viper).

Having already admired (above) the driver's massive, hefty balls (damp/wet track), it is also my perception he is not 100% wired in to the 'Ring. He's a bit jerky. A ringer 'Ring driver could extract another bit of time.

It's a great performance for "a Chevrolet" and presumably the Z/28 will offer tremendous value for trackrats who want a stonking V8 in an American nameplate car. Let's see the MSRP before I reach a final verdict.

Great job Camaro team, well done men.

if the conditions effected the time they should have waited for a better day. They were over there long enough for goodness sake. I bet if you put truth serum in the GM engineers and Mark S., I bet they were hoping for better. They post that time in those conditions because that was the best they could get. Sorry, if conditions were a negative impact, they should have ran on a better day. This was a very big deal.

3.8 seconds is hugh! When you start running those kind of times, a few tenths are hard to find. still, I'm not impressed enough to want to give up the creature comforts included with the ZL1.

No kidding! The thing is, this certainly was not the only lap they ran, but still the fastest. If you read the Chevy press release on the Z28-

they actually surpassed this claim by .8 seconds. I actually thought they were referring to VIR, but I don't know.

The car will be truly awesome for track rats. I still think it also speaks to how much a marvel the ZL1 is, to run such a close time with all the amenities it has (I am clearly biased lol).

The interesting time would be from second, third etc. consecutive laps where heat soak would be an issue for the ZL1.

I would bet a bigger margin of victory for the Z28 versus the ZL1 at VIR.

Over which car? You do realize that VIR is a great bit smaller than the ring?

As many have said here, the lap is in the rain. Really, what do you want?

Additionally, keep in mind that the Z/28 and ZL1 will probably show less difference on this track than, say, Laguna. Nordschleiffe tests the car's cornering abilility and overall stamina to be sure, but there are also times where the Z/28 is just out-muscled on the straights by the LSA's horsepower. Now, get it into a windier track where it can stretch its legs and take advantage of the Trofeos, I think it'll get ugly.

Just my $0.02. YMMV.... but I'll bet that this car will be beating the ZL1 by the same margin on tracks that are a third of the length. Both are great cars, just depends on if you want the track-rat or the supercharged beast with a little more straight-line wallop.

Great run given the less than perfect conditions. Maybe could shave off a few on a hot, dry track.

On a side note, I take great pleasure in imagining what THE PILL is doing over on the Ford forums trying to downplay or discredit the times.
LOL at THE PILL

Great car + Great driver = Great time Impressed with not only the Z/28 and it's capability but the abilities of the test driver in less than optimum conditions. And yes I'm sure he clanks when he walks...
