they are nice but not completely necessary on a 6th gen. 5th gen absolutely as there are few places to jack without using a pinch weld. On a 6th gen there is an easy access point behind the front tire with a body bushing present there which appears reinforced.

Yes buy them. Do not them jack it up anywhere beside the pinch weld. DO NOT jack up on the aluminum behind the front tire, It can tweak the front suspension cradle.

That isnt aluminum. Go get yourself a magnet and watch it stick. Why does everyone think that is aluminum?

I was told it was, never bothered to try a magnet. Was diffidently told not to jack the car up from anything besides the pinch welds.

a jack, yes, I suppose.

But a 2-post lift a a dealer like the OP mentioned? There are other options. The pinch weld is not the only place to lift the vehicle.

This is the aluminum they speak of. It is ok to jack up the car only on 4-point lift. Otherwise you have to use the pinch points on the edge of the car

I bought these on Amazon for about $10 each, and added my own pucks I had left over from my 03 Z06.

They work perfect, clear everything and hang down enough to clear the plastic body panels.

I tried the name brand bolt on set, and also made my own, but the above combo is stellar.

These do have two small magnets, pressed into the nylon.

This makes is a total breeze now

It's not aluminum, as you said. It's steel. But it's NOT thick steel and it's not like lifting directly on a frame like you used to be able to. You can ONLY lift from that point if you're lifting with a 4 point all at the same time. Go ahead and put your jack on that and go to town, it will crush in. Ask me how I know. I know several techs that did that, thousands in repairs. For that reason we're fully outfitted with Race Ramps, Jack Pads, drive on lifts, and they all are trained on how to lift Corvettes/Camaros. I'm working on making a division of techs JUST to work on LS/LT cars with a separate area/lifts/tools/training etc.
