I think the challenger is great looking but it is on a 5/4 scale. It looks good from every angle except from the rear where the skinny tires and girth of body betray its large sedan roots. Unless they do something to improve its handling, I wouldn't be a buyer.

GM needs to put out a power pack tune for the ZL1. A package that boosts power by 60-75HP and doesn't void the warranty. Would be a money maker for GM and would keep the ZL1 competitive for years to come.

I really think like the GT500 owners, the average Challenger owner could care less about handling. This as is the 500 will be marketed as a straight line terror. Ford set the bar with mid 11s stock in the 1/4, lets see if the SRT can meet or beat that.

You are probably right. And that new 8 speed automatic will likely help further the cause of making this into a straight line terror. As a former GT500 owner, I was always disappointed with its road manners. I also did a track day with all the SRT models last summer. The Challenger was a lot of fun on the track but was a sloppy pig in terms of its handling. The ZL1 inspires much more confidence. Just needs more power to keep up.

12:20"s, motortrends best time in their test was 13.0

and 13.2 here

I like both cars (Camaro and Challenger) and I am looking forward to when the new Challenger comes out. It’s about time Dodge put some more power under the hood. Here are some pics of my 09 SRT with the 13 ZL1. I love my Challenger and I will never sell it, I have enjoyed the car for over 4 years. Having said that I will never sell the Camaro either.

I don’t have any plans to mod the cars either; the only thing I have done is put a catch can on both cars for obvious reasons. I want both cars to remain bone stock.

I know this is a Camaro forum but in the end I am a car guy and I like different cars.

I Would not worry about this car too much. Firstly their marketing is terrible – that means you have to locate a car first. This is a huge hurdle with Chrysler. The second thing you have to do is Find a dealer who is some what honest. That is to say they are the king of the sticker Mark up. Have you ever wondered why you See so few of these cars on the road?. That is because of production and the above hurdles that I have mentioned. IMHO the only place u will see this car is here or in the mags

I like the looks of the Challenger, in fact I almost bought an SRT8 a couple years ago, but in my mind it just doesn't hold a candle to the ZL1.

It's good to see all of the big 3 involved. Sure, each has its followers, each has it's pro's and con's, but it's nice to see competition and options. All with 600 horses +\-, enjoy the trend while it remains in existence....and is reachable.

Who knows... In three years we could be looking back at the end of the second "muscle car era".... Which history has shown may be a once in a lifetime event for some.

Do you mean auto vs. manual? The Zl1 has numbers for both.

Timeslips?

The Zl1 consistently ran low 12s and 1 stock one even ran 11.9. It would be surprising to get such a wide separation in times unless it was weather and track conditions.

So it has a 135-hp advantage over the 1M, but the Challenger also weighs 4,257 pounds. No surprise then that it produces remarkably similar numbers at the drag strip: 4.7 seconds to 60 (4.4 seconds with rollout) and 12.9 seconds to the 1,320-foot mark with a trap speed of 111.0 mph.
