No Lift Shifting on Camaros??
Do we have official confirmation on the presence/absence of no lift shifting on 6M equipped Camaros?
I've seen confirmation on the presence of Launch Control, but haven't been able to find anything definitive on No Lift Shifting? Paul... |

Really I think the only reason there's no lift shifting one the Cobalt was to maintain boost between shifts.

I'd rather not have it (or launch control) honestly. Kinda glad the Camaro doesn't have it.

just because it has it doesnt mean you have to use it, unless you dont want to get smoked by a guy who can use them to be consistant

No lift shift with an LS3 and 20s means you'll still blow the tires off between gears. On a drag radial, that might be a different story. On a drag radial, I might want to ping the red for a split between gears to get into the right part of the torque curve in the next gear. I'd rather not have the car cutting into the throttle while I'm racing, thank you. Launch Control is great on stock AWD cars. Those cars will hook consistantly every time. However, for everyone else, unless it's adjustable, it's useless. Launch rpm depends a lot on your tires, the track prep, and the conditions. GM's arbitrary rpm for "ideal launch" isn't really ideal at all.

well, launch control is also a great training aid for those trying to dial-in their 1/4 times. Once you hit time within 3/10ths to 5/10ths of each other, time to disengage the LC and try manual launches.
FUN!!!! As far as NLS, I think anyone can bang the next gear without hitting the clutch if they sense the timing perfectly. The revs have to be just right. I've done it before, in a worn out 4-banger, and a 2-stroke motocross bike. If there's a computer nannie that helps with this, that's cool. but apparently it wont be available on the Maro. Sooooo. it will put me back to square one. Learn the manual with a car that has enough torque and HP to be forgiving of rookie mistakes. I, for one, will be concentrating solely on rev-matching downshifts, and no-clutch upshifts. (road track driving style, not 1/4 mile). I guess I picked one heck of a car to learn with. Hopefully I wont chew any gear teeth in the process... or grenade any tranny's - or pop any rear diffs........

Really, you guys are powershifting without the clutch??
At the track, I've always powershifted by keeping my right foot planted on the gas and quickly hitting the clutch/shifting... Works great as long as you don't miss the 2-3 and bounce off the limiter. My understanding of the NLS would be that you would do the above and it would hang at redline until you engage the next gear, rather than boucing off the limiter and ruining the run if you miss (along with kissing valves off the pistons, etc).... Make no mistake... I'll still powershift at the track without NLS, but I thought it sounded like a pretty cool feature. Too bad we won't get it :( |

you can NOT 'powershift' without the clutch. powershifting refers to shifting during WOT, while using the clutch.
you can run through the gears at low speed and low RPM without the clutch though. |

Yes. At certain rpms, you can shift gears without the clutch because the gears will be spinning at almost the same speed and the synchros will absorb the difference. It can be done, but it's harder on the trans than people think.
