Chevrolet will be careful when settling on the ZL1's MSRP, because if the ZL1 is priced too far above the GT500, or too close to the CTS-V. people will opt for those vehicles instead of the ZL1, and Chevrolet will have defeated the purpose of developing the ZL1 in the first place.

Chevrolet wants to see ZL1s on the street, the strip, and the track. If the ZL1 is priced appropriately, ZL1s will be seen dominating its class at those venues.

I'm confident that Chevrolet won't repeat the pricing debacle of the 1969 ZL1s.
Those were different days from the reading I've done. You can't do what Harrell did back then and there's no COPO. I won't say how foolish I think GM would be to do something like that again; I don't think there's a need at the same time. They're older and wiser and I can't see them not being the value brand they are for ZL1 either

The ZR1 time originally posted by Tran was a few tenths of a second slower than the ZL1 time. Now whether or not that was an error or just a previous time when the ZR1 was first released (without PTM and the sport cup tires), I don't know.

It was the original ZR1 time, not the updated time. Hence it being gone now

If so, I believe that would be a mistake on Chevrolet's part, since a base price in the 60's would not be competitive with the GT500, and Chevrolet has stated from the beginning that the ZL1 would be competitive with the GT500.

I think that is an excellent estimate of the base MSRP for the ZL1. The ZL1's MSRP needs to be close to that number so that it will be able to successfully compete with the GT500 for pony car dollars.

Well of course you'd miss them.........you're 10mins away and the lap was 7:41

The real question of how good the car is-is how fast will I be able to get it round the 'ring in comparison to the the official time

I'd like to believe this car will be in the Low $50k range but, when I went shopping for my '11 1SS, I saw plenty of 2SS Camaros in the $42,000-$44,000 range(I'm sure they were well equiped).. That's why I can't believe this 2012 Camaro ZL1 is going to anyway reasonable in the MSRP department..

The ZL1 being $62k has about as much a chance happening as it being $48k.

The GT500, fully optioned out with the track pack, is about mid $50's. The ZL1 will not be far from that considering all the performance features that are standard. Heck, the CTS-V starts at a price close to the $62k you predict. Do you really think GM is going to price a Camaro that closely to a Cadillac?

No need to go all Chicken Little on the subject of price point.

The Camaro has always been a couple of grand more than the Mustang. So if the GT500 starts at 47,000 and some change then I would think the ZL1 would start at 50,000.

The base MSRP for an '11 2SS is $34,420, and nicely equipped 2SS models have an MSRP of just under $38K. To get to an MSRP of over $42K, a 2SS must have the 21 inch wheels option, which is alone almost $5K.
