Question track prep difference

How much of a ET difference would a VHT prepped track yield versus an un-prepped track? For those of you who have cut sub 2 second 60' times on street tires, were those on a prepped track? I can't break 2 seconds to save my life on an unprepared track (the nearest drag strip doesn't use the stuff on the test and tune/fun drag days).

I'm running 315 20" invos and my most recent pass was 11.93@123mph. I'm only getting 2.05 60' times (Auto) with the tires at 25 psi...

Track prep makes little difference for street tires - they wont stick to race rubber compound, and vice versa.

I disagree, I have 3 tracks I normally go to. One of the 3 has never had good prep, and I have never went better then 2.0 with a avg of 2.1 on stock tires... Same setup on my car would 60ft 1.8-9s at the other two tracks that always have good prep! I could definitely tell when the track was hooking! Also the stock tires like a good burnout, well prepped track and smokey burnout got me 1.87s on the stock rubber. But really if your gonna run your car, get some tires! Street tires are a joke at the track.

2.0 to 1.8 is little difference. I guess it depends on how fast you're used to going.

2 tenths in a 60ft is little!!! Maybe if you run 8s, but when your racing 12-11 sec cars that's huge! When my car was boltons I was running 13.0s at that track, prepped track 12.6-7s. That's not little in my book.

Agree, 2 tenths in 60 ft. times is a lot no matter how fast you are in the 1/4 mile. I love it when the track feels like its going to pull your shoes off your feet on the starting line.

My local track preps for t-n-t nights. It makes a huge difference in hooking on street tires. I've only been to a few tracks and they all prep fairly well.

In my experience track prep even with radials makes a discernible difference. All radials like sticky tracks. But all radials also rip up the starting line. So in an ideal world, the track crew keeps prepping and touching up the track to keep it working.

I never went better than 1.92 on my Pirellis but I know that at some events I could have gone high 1.8's but that's not typically the case for me around here.

Heck my best 60 in the car is a 1.66 and I was spinning at the grove.

Radials like glue and slicks like wheel speed.

PBIR only charges $20 and they prep before we start running and about half way through the night. They have been running one lane from 6pm till about 8:30pm for some reason. Single runs are no fun, imo.

Are you getting into the gas slowly to hook your car? Based on reading your build thread, you have exhaust, cam, heads, and a blower, and stock converter?

I daily drive on drag radials, I hate not having traction.

In the 4th gen days we had fully adjustable suspension, like drag shocks. For junk tracks I'd run stuff soft/loose and stiffen/tighten them for a good track.

Most tracks I think drag the whole track before opening, and spray traction compound at the starting line and maybe out 100-200 feet. Then they don't do it again for the rest of the night. On regular TnT nights at my local track the best traction is right when they open and then it gradually goes away. Throw in a little dew at 9PM and the track is useless.

Yes to the above, I'm rolling into it from idle. I really have no other choice unless I want to be the fishtailing guy at the start. My best results are using "competition mode" for the stabilitrak. and even then if I'm not careful the power will overwhelm the computer and it enters "power cut then lurch forward" mode. What drag radials are you running for your daily drive, the NT05R?
