2013 top marks
For those of you experienced with top issues, what do you make of these marks? At first I thought it was wrinkles, but the top is tight. They appear to just be darker sections, but I don't know what they are from. Maybe just normal weathering will remove them?

I believe they are from wrinkles. I have them in my 13 and had them in my11. I've also noticed them on the 12s at a dealers lot. Mine kind of go away after the tops up a while, after it stretched alittle. A top expert (not sure if there is one), told me last summer that you should never leave your top down overnight as it caused the wrinkles to show longer and bolder. Never heard that before nor was it in the owners manual. I've tried to make it a point to put the top up overnight and really haven't noticed any difference.

My top has only been down for a duration not longer than 3 hours. And it's only been down a total of 5 times.
It was in the showroom for 3 days prior to my purchase, but I believe the top was up. I find it odd that the shades of the top would change, maybe something to do with the pigmentation and the pressure? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 |

The cloth top wrinkles, there's nothing I know of that will prevent it, except take delivery, and never put the top down. I have the tan top and it does appear that there are darker areas in the wrinkles. I have also noticed that if the top is down for extended periods of time, they appear worse than usual. I've seen other makes of sports cars with cloth tops and they have wrinkles and worse. This is my first rag top and have accepted that it's part of the experience. Enjoy the car and consider yourself lucky if that's all that ever happens to the top, as others have had nightmares with the mechanicals of this top.

Those are wrinkles. Havent seen a top yet that didnt have them. Definitely dont leave the top down overnight.
Let me clarify, or use a different term, those are 'fold marks'. |

I agree babytiger. You will find fold marks on all rag tops on any car that uses this fabric (or possibly any fabric for that matter). Unavoidable. Look at other rag tops on other cars in parking lots and you may find yours are less noticeable. Also, as babytiger says, put the top up when you are done using the car for the day.

Thanks for the input folks. Ive read so many horror stories I just wanted to be sure it was normal. I know what I was getting into with a convertible, so I'm not that worried. I'm just trying to get a feel for what the top is like now so in 2 years I will know if something is amiss. I've learned alot in short time here.
All my questions have been answered and now I'm just going to enjoy it, unless of course I see any leaks! |

Yup, fold marks. My second top is fairly new...been cycled maybe 5 times. I noticed the same marks, but only in certain light. I think maybe we are expecting perfection that will never come. Am I the only one that looks for marks on other people's cars in the parking lot?

It's not a wrinkle but rather a crease mark.

This is interesting, as the 2013 tops were being touted by many as "bulletproof" all figured out. GM has always had that reputation of waiting until the 2nd year or later before buying that model.
Even though the horror stories of a few makes it look as if all tops are bad, they aren't of course. "Tramtwo" on this site had his car bought back after much work and frustration. Not sure about other member "Catcuseater", but he had his share as well. I am real happy I didn't see this forum before buying my "vert". I probably would have been scared away from it. As it is, now I wouldn't consider a Camaro with a hardtop. Okay, that is a stretch, their are many fantastic hardtops out there. Point being, there will be problems in any production process. The top though is much more noticeable and can be a pain if it is raining inside your car. I do though inspect my top all the time though and the creases/marks come and go. Good luck. |
