my friend listened to autzone and used turtle wax rubbing compound...

well about a week ago a friend of mine found a scuff on his bumper, so he went to auto zone and asked what he should use. they told him to use the turtle wax rubbing compound...errr what a mistake,,it left the spot worse then it was before...so once i found out about this, i offered my help to fix the
problem with my knowledge on detailing i was sure id be able to get it fixed
,,i have alot of adams stuff so thats what i used along with the porter cable 7424,,, first i used adams fine machine polish on the bigger pad,,that pad was to big for the spot. so i went ahead and used the 4 inch adams pad..the fmp and white 4 inch bad..made it look better but did not do the job,so i switched over to adams swirl and haze remover and the orange 4 inch bad..i did one pass with it and it made it look much better. but stil wasn't happy with it fully, so i did a couple more passes with the shr and..that did the trick...it was fixed! i followed up with adams fine machine polish again along with adams machine sealant.. it looked brand new...the car is a daily driver so it has rock chips on it,,but here are the before and after pics!

compound is what u use to cut the clear coat and remove scratches in ur clear coat or if u have enamel paint to remove the paint to smooth it out u can use wax or whatever just takes alot longer. then use finesse or , hand glaze . im not sayin nothing bad i just know the worst compound out there isnt going to do that alone. u did a good job cleanin it up. u talkin me all wrong.

Rubbing compound dulls paint. He also didn't say what it was applied with. Your friend started too aggressive.

You did a great job by stepping up the aggressiveness of the materials until the damage was removed, then polishing it out.

I've used turtle wax before on a few vehicles, the stuff worked just fine for me. Not trying to say it's better then what you did by any means, but I don't think it was just what your friend used that caused the problem, maybe how he was using it? Great job though.
