PD Blower Selection, What's Your Experience?
I am preparing to install a PD blower kit on a 2015 A6 SS. I currently have a Whipple'd S550 5.0L, so naturally I was leaning towards the Whipple kit. However, I noticed that it appears there is a hood fitment issue with them (2014+), as well as the kit's taking a month or more at present it seems.
2nd selection was the Magnuson Heartbeat kit. Power looks similar at 550ish RWHP all stock, which is similar to the published Whipple gains. I'm really just looking for a solid, OEM looking kit that is durable for a weekend warrior car with a couple of dragstrip passes/year or so at most. I really like how the Magnuson kit fits under the stock hood, and the fitment looks great as well. I did notice Lingenfelter offers an 'improved' kit.....and noted that they install a fuel pump booster, whereas the stock Magnuson kit has no booster? The Whipple kit drops in an entirely different pump as well? Any input or experienced advice is appreciated. Going to make a purchase in the next few days, so if any vendors have some input, I greatly appreciate it too!! Thank You!! |

Heartbeat here as well. I just dropped it off at the shop to send the blower to Nitrous Outlet for spray bars

Picked up my Whipple through Jannetty. Took about 3 weeks from order to shipment. Added on to my existing heads/cam LS3 with id1050x injectors, ZL1 pump, and boost a pump.
Car made 711 on 93 with a very conservative 16* at 10psi with lots of room to grow.

Thank you all! I am certainly partial to the Whipple setups based on my previous experience with them, however on this build I believe the Maggie is going to be my choice. Thank you all for the advice and help!

I had a magnuson with a jackshaft. Easy install, looked great and was perfect for street driving.

For a real street car, I’ve always been a fan of top mount superchargers. I think the best instant torque that the magnuson provides really makes the car enjoyable on the street. Great feel of torque and power with the gas pedal. If you want to chirp the tires or more maybe for a little fun it’s really easy to do with these. They are all great products and you can’t go wrong. Fit and finish for the magnuson is nice also. Get the one that fits and doesn’t cause headaches and you can’t go wrong.

^ My thoughts exactly. It appears the fit and finish of the Magnuson Heartbeat kit was reviewed as very good. The Whipple kit also has stellar reviews, but I really did not want to modify the vent/drip tray away from factory. HP wise, the RWHP numbers on both were within 10 hp, and pricing was the same, so at that point it really became which was the easier and cleanest install, for me.
