Did anyone suggest it is only the Power Steering Pump being reworked?

Even if the ZL1 had less horsepower than 580 I would still take it over a Mustang GT500....Its a 5th Gen Camaro after all, it just looks much more modern then the Mustang to me, Oh and what is under the hood and undercarriage matches the modern lines of this beautiful car...
Well said. The Mustang is playing catch up with the PTM/TC electronics. Let's see how well the Blue Oval engineers can implement the math and techno gizmo's to make 650 HP hook up from the factory stock on their old chassis design.

You know....Carroll Shelby went to GM and asked for Chevy motors for his project road race cars back in the 60s and GM turned him down. After that he went to Ford and they gave him what he wanted. Do you think GM would go so far as to lose money on the ZL1 just to "one up" Ford at their own game with a pulley and computer upgrade?.....if Al Oppenheimer has to eat crow over this whole thing...he will never live it down!

For a Chevy site there sure are a lot of people scared of a little ol mustang.
Bring it on. Can't wait to dust off my first of many GT500's. I don't care if they have 800 hp, 900hp It don't matter. They still are going to LOSE

I guess I just think of it as an option that should be there in this day and age. Get it if you'll use it, save the extra cost if you don't want it. But at least make the option available. You could also just use a smartphone, google maps is better than any in-dash nav system and you get free updates, none of these lame OEM DVD's for new map releases.

I want to share a thought that I've been having on the possibility of a power bump being the reason for the hold. We all know the LSA is capable of a nice bump in power with simply a crank pulley and tune. The most common reason people give to argue that GM is NOT bumping power is that it's too late in the process to do it now with all the validation that would have to be done over again. However, GM knew even before the 1st "saleable" ZL1 was built that public opinion was criticizing the 580HP. I say public opinion because we still haven't seen how the car as a whole will compare to either a 2013 or 2012 GT 500.

So here's my thought
How do we know that the very 1st "saleable" ZL1 didn't come off the assembly line from day 1 making more than 580 HP and it isn't actually the validation process of the new power numbers we are waiting on right now?

In my head, this scenario is a fantasy and I don't need it to still buy my ZL1, but if it were true I would be going nuts praising GM and my customer loyalty would in no way drift. I would also expect GM to keep something like this secret as long as possible.

It "sounds" great to me. My theory is that if it were just a "power steering pump" why would it be kept so close to the vest? Me thinks it is more than a simply explained issue. Maybe not, but after all, "this is war!"

That's fine with me

If I can have this car in my possession by April 19th, I would be SUPER happy with no complaints. However, I realize if it doesn't ship by at least April 9th, it won't happen :(
