zl-1 owners who had mufflers warrantied please read

Took my Z in for oil change and showed dealer my exhaust with the muffler guts coming out. They said chevy hasnt acknowledged this problem and denied the repair request. I showed them the exhaust thread from here and they said get an r.o number from one of the people that had this issue fixed.

HUH??? So, because "chevy hasn't acknowledged this PROBLEM" they did not fix it????

Its freakin broken and has a warranty so they sholud fix the damn broken part regardless. This warranty BS is getting widespread in Ford, Chevy and Dodge stuff.

Sounds like typical GM when it comes to warranty work. You wouldn't even believe the stories I went through with my G8.

Im sure there is somebody in here that has an R/O number they can give you that has had the mufflers replaced. I still don't think that its up to you to prove that its a PROBLEM when the damn packing in the muffler is coming out.

I had my fixed, even after I purchase it used. The dealership ordered the exhaust installed it once the part came in. Brand new exhaust. I had no issues here, I have the reciept I believe in my car but my car is currently at the body shop getting a few things done.

Anyway I can help?

my .02 try a different dealership. I have always had good luck with waranty but I will be complete a-hole if I have to.

The dealership is obviouily full of crap in some way because I know I have seen at least 4 people have there replaced under waranty.

Waranty is not through the dealership you buy from but the whole network.

I hate to hear this happening to you! I might come unglued...but IMO, you have a dealership concern and not a Chevy concern with the denied repair request. Just giving my opinion.. I've been in dealership life since I was 16 and that is not how they should handle a claim.

Just ask the same dealer is this covered under the emissions warranty or not, if they say no they are lying. Tell them you will report them as such. Just my 2 cents! The other thing is why won't you name the dealer you went to get service? It's not a secret, and chances are someone else may have had a problem with them.

Exhaust is not covered under emissions warranty (except the cats). Exhaust is covered under 3/36 warranty.

Regardless, IF your muffler has a visible defect, they are required to replace it under warranty. If you are just trying to be proactive and get it replaced without signs of issue (which would make no sense), then the dealer is correct.

If there are several owners having the same issue, it might be wise to wait a bit and see if GM issues a TSB for the problem. If that's the case, they would likely upgrade the replacement part so it doesn't happen again.

I'd recommend just taking it to a different dealer
