Choosing a torque converter for AGP kit

Hey everyone I'm looking at a new torque converter to support my AGP twin kit. Circle d recommended a 258mm multidisk 3000rpm

Fti recommended a 3600

AGP said a 3800 would be the best but I'm not sure. I city drive the car 3 days a week/interstate drive to shows and tracks.

Any one with turbo builds with converter specs please weigh in

3800+
I would do a circle D 3800.

I run a 3800 in my wifes daily driver mustang. She never even noticed when I swapped it. Worrying about a high stall is just something left over from the 60s when there wasn't a lock up converter. If the converter is locked, it doesn't matter what the stall speed is. 6l80 have an electronic lock up. So under part trottle normal driving it will drive almost identical to a stock convertor. Only when you floor it will there be a big difference.

converter

I run a 2800 to 3000 stall on mine all depends on your goal with car higher stall better et at track but for street a lower stall works best in my opinion, i run twins with cammed car 20lbs

Contact Brian at Circle D and tell him your setup. He will spec out what you need. Just did the 3200 stall with him.

Had a 3600 with my AGP kit & it was to far in to boost, switch to a 2800 & it's perfect for a street car. I guess when you call & tell a converter company that your car makes over a 1000whp they automatically assume it's a track car lol

On street cars we usually run a Circle D 3000-3200 on our turbo setups. Turbo sizing, cam profile, and CI all play a roll in what converter we end up with though.

Always have more power than you need at any given time and then you can always dial it back. The circle-D 3800 likely hits too hard for the street, so you dial it back a bit for the street. But at least you have it in your arsenal when you're on a prepped surface, and then you adjust your launch with your 2step and or MPH activated boost control. Whatever your car can handle at the time. The E38 ECU has a per gear, max torque timing retard table that is great.

I have been talking to Brian he is who recommended the 3000rpm

How is the interstate driving with a 3000 or bigger. I will add a trans cooler but my friends all have that raspy slipping noise from the converter and its rough on shifts.

All in the tune. At anything less than 1/2 throttle you should have the converter locked up so the car will drive exactly like stock. Back in the day before the good lock up converters, this was the big thing you had to balance out the trade offs with a stall. Now days you can have it all. Loose converter for the launch and lock it for civilized driving.

I have the Circle D 258mm 3000rpm converter on mine. Like it so far with the mild cam that I run. But if the cam would be stock or a LS9 cam. I'd use the stock or a ZL1 converter.
