Wow, great responses from everyone.

I have to say that I'm currently leaning towards the 2LT primarily due to cost, insurance, & mpg concerns. However, if the Army decides to promote me in the next few monts and put an extra $500 a month in my pocket I'll still go 2SS just because I can.

I appreciate everyones input on the matter so far.

Man, $500 a month from an Army promotion? I finally got a promotion after 4 years with my company and they didn't give me half that much.

Oh, one other reason for getting the LT that I forgot to mention - less chance of getting myself killed. Yep. I nearly got myself & my sister killed in a 1979 Datsun 280Z once by punching the gas in a turn (we went sideways and jumped the median on a major road), and that thing had under 200 horsepower. "Know thyself," the saying goes, and I know MontyCarlo can get in enough trouble with 304 hp - 400+ would be tempting fate.

Not that I'm a BAD driver. Never been in an actual collision, never even been pulled over, but when it comes to staying alive I like to keep my risks LOW.

101ABN, I'm in the DC area too and commute 120 miles a day (Fredericksburg to Chantilly), so I know where you are coming from on the gas mileage thing. Some people say the gas mileage isn't that big a difference between the SS and the LLT, but with all the miles I cover I didn't want to take a chance. If gas rolls back up to $4+ a gallon, every MPG is gonna count, man. So I got the 2LT RS, and NO REGRETS.

I'm a military guy like you. Retired from the Corps 2 years ago. So let's think about it from our perspective. Having the right weapon is everything, life or death. A shotgun in a desert plain is of practically no use, but it sure works nice when clearing rooms. Conversely, clearing rooms with a Sniper Rifle... not so good, but it's a beauty in the open field. Same principles on the car. If your commuting over a hundred miles a day, you're gonna care about gas mileage, bro. And yeah, if you stomp the pedal to merge or for a bit of fun, you won't have 400 horses... but 300+ is still freakin' sweet!!!

And when someone asks and finds out you got nearly 30 mpg and 300 horses AND you enjoy all that road time in the hottest looking car on the pavement... you won't have any regrets. And I'm sure the fellas on this site will tell you this too... I get stopped EVERY DAY with someone telling me how awesome my car is. That's not what I bought if for, but it's a nice bonus.

That's my two cents. All the best to you in your decision, brother.

I think you're gonna be happy with either car man. Both have plenty of power, and pretty good economy (LT actually has spectacular economy for what it is)

Personally, I need the roar of the 8, but that's my preference. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably take the 6. More power than my old Z28, and 29 mpgs? Plus lightener on the wallet? SOLD!

I'm holding out for a 2ss/rs, but like I said, matter of preference. It's gonna be your DD right?

Jakpot, 1st of all, thank you for your service to our country. Second, your analogy makes sense to me. I had pretty much decided on a 2LT for the reasons I stated earlier but I think you sealed it for me. I still might wait until after my next deployment to pay for it.

Thank you, brother!

i wanted the ss more than anything. My wife always wanted a camaro and she did not want to drive the ss with that much power under foot. once the miles per gallon and 300hp #'s came out about the new v6 I was sold. And a car seat fits great behind the passenger seat too. haha, thats my bonus

I found the "reinvention" of the Camaro to be too gorgeous to pass up. I have decided on buying a new 2LT but I am left wondering if the $6,000 price & performance difference between a 2SS and a similarliy equipped 2LT will leave me wanting the 2SS in a year or 2.

What does everyone think? The opinions of owners are greatly apprciated. Has anyone had the LT over SS regret?
If I would have ordered a 2SS with the same options as my 2LT, MSRP would have been about $8k more than MSRP of my 2LT. $8k wasnt worth it to me, so I went with the 2LT.
