No Coolant

OK so I decided after a long winter to take the car out for a spin down the road. The really is hesitant on acceleration. Figure this with bad gas. No problem, right. Looked at my tail pipes and they have this rust looking color around the tips. Just got new flowmasters put on, so I think that may be the reason. Smell something funny so open the hood to see if everything is set. Bam!!!! the heat that was coming out of the hood was intense. I checked oil again. Good. Coolant GONE!!!!!!!!! What the hell happened to all my coolant. Did not see any leaks and when I put her away for winter she was mint. Not sure what the heck is up. Any HELP would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

Yeah, I figured that to, but nothing on my garage floor. No stain, nothing looks like it has been wet in the engine compartment. I work on diesel engines at work, but with this car I want take every precaution.

just fill it up and run it. it's pressurized, so if there's a leak you'll know soon enough.

Being that theres rust on ur muffler..which could of been caused by. The coolant..meants that u might have a rip in the head gasket..and it was slowing burning up... What color is the wet in the xompartment?

Not sure what you mean by color in compartment? She look like water vapors out the tail pipe. It is white. Not a thick white. No smell of burning coolant. Oil looks clean. Just can't believe that after 20,000 miles my coolant is gone. Debating on whether to take it to the dealership or just try and see what happens.

Swap out your exhaust, and head to the dealership. It would suck to have the dealer deny your claim because of your exhaust (it happens).

ok so I have an update to this. Was troubleshooting a little more before calling taking it to the dealer. So I found out that the coolant temp warning light will go off at 265 degrees, I was at about 250 degrees. I let the car cool and did not realized that the dipstick has little bearing on what the level is. I opened up the cap and was packed full of coolant. troubled by this I let her warm up to about 212 degrees. Figured by then the thermostat would open up and start cooling her off. Nothing. Then I realized the fan does not even kick on. So I am just going to get her towed to the dealership and have them deal with it. Also, I truly doubt they will deny warranty for an overheating issue because I have after market mufflers. The film that came off the tips are probably crap from sitting for so long. There are no drain holes in these mufflers so I guarantee water sit in them from condensation. I will be putting some drain hole in them soon.

I had something similar happen and when I took it to the dealership they said there was a known issue with air pockets in the line which would make it appear there was no coolant. They weren't able to re-create the issue (overheating) most likely due to me adding coolant prior to taking it in. I called on air pockets in the line for mine specifically as I added quite a bit of dexcool before taking it in and if it had been an air pocket I'm guessing once they worked themselves out it would have been overfilled and it wasn't......Good Luck and hopefully you get it figured out.

I never had an overheating issue but I've noticed a slow coolant loss in the overflow tank. I have to add about a cup of coolant every 5 months or so to keep the level on the dipstick within range. The actual radiator level has always been full though.

Hopefully it is something simple. I checked all fuses for the fan and nothing is blown. There is a relay for it. Not sure if anybody here knows what temp the fan kicks on. That would help me a lot. Especially when taking it into the dealer. That way I can tell them where the problem is instead of them fishing for it, and we all know that can take awhile.

ok here is an update. Dealer of course could not get the car to overheat. They did not frive it, so I am a little skeptical. They said while just sitting there the temp got to 226 degrees. That seems hot for me considering that I have never seen it get above 210 + or - a few degrees. Wondering if anybody out there would do me a favor and see what there temp gets to just sitting at idle. I would really appreciate it. Also if anyone knows when tue fan kicks on. I am suppose to pick her up tommorow, but I feel she is just going to overheat again. The car was really sluggish too. Felt like my 4 cylinder jeep on take off.
