Because buyers don't buy engines, they buy cars. Engines and HP are great for marketing and enthusiasts discussions like this. But in the end, money talks, and people buy the best car for their money. As we've seen over the last 5 years, this leads to #1 selling Chevrolet Camaro.

OK. i sure someone must have already talked about this but i paid $ 55,000.00 for my 580 HP ZL1 with NAV , RECAROŽ Performance Front Seats and Interior Sueded Microfiber Package. Including a 1300 gas taxs. If i want to invest 3,500.00 more . I could boost my motor to 725 HP easily. I am talking about at the transmission not the wheels but there 707 is at the transmission as well. So for 58500.00 i am smoking a 80,000.00 car .. Camaro is still number one in my book the only thing that would change my mind is if they priced the HellCat in the 50 to 60 range and i don't think they are going to do that.

I read the post above and some of you do not think the ZL1 in time will be a "legend". Only time will tell.Who would have thought the cars of the 60's-70's would be selling for what there are now. Now the 69 ZL1 is a legend, the hemi cudas are legends and so on. I really do think that it will not be to long before the big 3 building these cars will stop just like they did before. Probably in 40 years when some of us are pushing up green grass they will be talking about the cars we own right now and saying at the time they were built they were fast cars and came along ways in development for that period.I am talking about all the performance cars. I think you will see our beloved ZL1's in the history books along with others but there will always be someone who will think it is the best Camaro ZL1 built and that will make it a "legend!"

I mean if you went ham with boost headers intake cam tune you are going to be shooting pretty high. But then again you need a hx and the labor involved plus new injectors.

You spent 55+ to smoke x car (HellCat wont cost that) A 1LE owner could spend less. An SS owner could spend less. A 4th gen owner could so end less...

I love my ZL1. I consider my car a Gran Tourer.
But seeing the GT500 and now the Hellcat with not just alittle but way more HP, does have me disappointed. Plus, Ford did it with an engine with only 5.8 liters and Dodge engine is 6.2 liters. But come on GM, I think, if the ZL1 from stock had closer towards 650HP, I would feel alittle better. I will wait and see if next gen car keeps up with the horsepower war. Hopefully it will be the engine that's in the new Z06? The only thing, I don't see is where are those Ring times for the GT500 and now the Hellcat??? |

Look at all of the auto mags, the "As Tested Price" of the GT500 is always a few thousand dollars more than the ZL1.

2013 ZL1 sales were close to double that. I don't have the exact number, but based on VIN # So, given the GT500 and ZL1 price base difference is negligible, sales numbers lead me to believe HP numbers and 1/4 times are not top of the list for the general public. Anyone who feels differently are free to provide valid stats to back up their claim.

So, if people claim all that matters is straight line, why aren't base GT500s outselling ZL1s? Could you imagine a magazine comparison of a base GT500 to ZL1? Ford would never allow it, the GT500 would get embarrassed on the track. |
