And some kids will lie to their friends and say they have drank when they really haven't. Those numbers seem reasonable to me. Figure 39% of kids 12-17 would mean that nearly everyone in the 16-17 range has drank, while relatively few in the 12-13 range have, with 14-15 being somewhere in the middle, but skewed towards not drinking. Seems about right to me.

Now, for the 6% that have had 40+ days of drinking, that may seem low but the more I think about it, the more reasonable it becomes. Figure 40 days is about once a month for 3 and a half years, or once every other week for a year and a half, or once every week for 9 months ... thats a pretty difficult pace for a kid in highschool to keep up.

Not at all. For the most part, underage drinking (particularly while in high school) isn't all that fun ... or easy. first you have to get the booze, then you have to figure out how to deal with your parents when you get home from a part drunk ... much better to just avoid it all together and wait till its legal

I keep forgetting that 21 is the limit in most states. Its too high. 18 or 19 seems a lot more appropriate. I didn't drink a whole lot until I turned 19 (not that I became an alcy after that though) but I probably wouldn't have held off that long

From the time that I moved to Oshawa for university until I had my first drink was about 3 days. Second was about a half hour after that ...
