shorties don't bypass the cats, so I don't see how emissions would be affected. Long tube headers which bypass the cats - definitely emmision problems.

While they may not affect the actual emissions, there is that whole C.A.R.B certification (or what ever it is..) thing to be "legal in all 50 states". You actually have to prove it doesn't affect emissions and then go through all that stuff and paper work... my understanding it's take a while and is $$$...

How much do they check in those emissions inspections?
When we had them in Kentucky, the just put a mirror underneath and checked for catalytic converters, then put something on the gas tank and something in the tailpipe.
Do they actually open up the hood in your states and look at the headers/manifolds/intake?

I remember when Detroit had emissions testing.. what a crock! The cars that polluted the most, the old cars, were exempt!

Yeah, Louisville had inspections and something like 97% passed and almost 100% of the newer cars passed. People complained that it was just taking everyone's money and wasn't doing anything but line the guy who owned the company that ran tests pockets. I think he shot himself in the foot by showing off all of his toys he owned, off shore racing boat, exotic cars and an airplane. It created such a uproar it was gone in a year.

This is the reason I cancelled my JBA shorty order. I may check further into the emission laws here im PA to see if I can install these without hassle at inspection time.
