DOT drag radials???

Hey guys,

I just took my car out to the drag strip for the first time earlier today (48 degrees outside and very windy). She actually ran pretty decent times considering how slippery the track was! My 60' times sucked a$$!!! 2.10 was my best 60' foot time (on stock P-Zeros) with a run of 13.08 at 111 mph. I'm pretty happy with the mph!! I NEED drag radials! I talked to a bunch of guys at the strip and I would like your advice. I do not want anything too agressive as I don't plan to live at the strip, but I'd sure like to get her into the mid to upper 12's, and now I know that's possible!!

I'd also like your thoughts on the best place to buy these drag radials with rims so I can trade them out here at home before I actually drive out to the track. The track is an hour drive from where I live. I'm perfectly fine with used and don't really care what the rims look like, but I have no idea where to even start looking. I realize that I could buy brand new stuff, but that is not necessary, and I'd rather not break the bank. I only plan to drag race it a few times a summer.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

I bought an extra set of wheels and had Nitto 555s put on the front and 555r drag radials put on the back. I got them at Discount Tire. It was a little over $1250 out the door.

If you watch in the members classifieds you should easily be able to find something for a decent price. The 18" Z06 wheels seem to be the popular choice that doesn't break the bank.

You can leave front as is. Used go for 600-800 usually for 18" rears

Drag radials will get you in the 12's

You should probably be careful if you do this, there is a large risk of breaking drivetrain parts. Having an automatic trans helps.

I appreciate that, but I'm really looking to get a completely different set of rear wheels/tires.

Yeah, good point. That was the other reason for posting this. I wanted to hear which tires you guys like and why? I'm probably not going to be a hard-core drag racer, but I'd like to get into the mid 12's without tearing apart my rear end. I really don't plan to go all that often, which is why I'm trying to get this relatively cheap.

Dumb question, but I assume that means the 18" Z06 rims are the same bolt pattern as our cars? What other makes/models will work? Will a 4th gen Camaro work?

I have a set of Nitto NT05's on mine and so far I like them and I think I paid $550 for the set. I am no pro at the track and on my second time at the track I ran a 12.89.

What track did you go to? I have been to Kaukauna and Great Lakes Dragway. I see your 225 miles from me and not familiar with tracks in your area.

Yup.
Anything with the right bolt pattern and correct offset for the wheel width will work. There's so much info already posted on here, if you do a search using the right key words and read and read and read.....you'll find what you're looking for. I just did a quick search for Z06 in thread titles and found LOTS of threads.

I put Forgestar 18 for strip with Mickey Thompson on them.
Got rims off of Nineballer here on Camaro 5. Great looking rims.
Got the tires from Summit right at $200 per tire. You go with that set up you won't spin.
