2010 2SS vs. 2008 GT500

I bring this up...because we just test drove a 2008 GT500 today. We were looking around just for fun and I wanted to see if they'd let my fiance test drive it. Well they did, and the salesman told her to get on it!

My girlfriend didn't do so hot. So we switched...and I got on it. With traction control on, I had no problems getting the tires to spin, the car sounded great, handled well. It was a good vehicle. Didn't have the looks of the Chevy....but since no one is allowed to drive a 2SS on a test drive, its all I have to go on.

Has anyone here driven both? How does the Camaro compare to this GT500? On paper, the GT500 has a much better Power to Weight ratio at 7 lbs over the 2SS at 9 lbs. From what I understand it handles better as well.

Go to your local rent a car agency and rent a SS to test out. There should be some available around your area.

I have driven both. My friend has a white 08 GT500. Stock, by the seat of the pants feel, his felt about the same as our SS. I didnt do anything crazy in the car other than just get on it hard when we were rolling at about 20. Im sure it was faster, but it wasnt enough to make me say "WOW this thing is fast" Its a nice ride though.

Tires spun with TC ON?!?!?!? Are you sure it was on? TC is supposed to PREVENT wheel spin. Maybe it was broken?

That's good to hear. Once you work with cars that are in the 400hp+ alot of them feel the same by the butt dyno. Glad to see it wasn't something drastically different.

Yes....it was on. Also in first gear taking off into a turn.

Yes, and techincally the Camaro's is 9.04. Why not nitpick them both? I was just using the whole numbers obviously. But either way...the FORD's power to weight is still quite a bit better than 9 isn't it?

Yes it certainly is. However, some may say it's the dollars per HP that is more telling when comparing these two cars.

well not all of us can afford a 50k car to tote around in. Ill gladly take my SS and run slighly behind your gt500. Meanwhile ill have people veering off the road to take a picture of my car, and well yours goes virtually unnoticed. You cant put a price on that.
