Alternative Location for Cutouts
I finally installed my cutouts yesterday. I had them sitting around for months getting the oval pipe ordered and cut.
I decided that I wanted them behind the rear axle for a few reasons: 1) Cabin noise... When they are under the front seats, you can’t even hear the radio if they are opened. “Under-the-seats” may be okay for occasional use, but I wanted to run these wide open for a while if I so choose. I make the people behind me deal with it . I drove about 40 miles today with them open. No horrible drone (but it is there), but the DFCO popping is exaggerated. 2) Exhaust smell... I heard a few people complain about the smell. It does smell pretty rank when standing behind the car during idle. I bet it would smell like that in the entire car if you were cruising around with them open under the seats. 3) Heat… I figured there would be less hot gasses under the car. 4) Farther from the O2 sensor… A few people were saying that dumping exhaust immediately after the cats could affect the O2 sensor readings. 5) After the x-pipe… I am not sure what the x-pipe does, but it is still doing its job when the cutouts are open Pics: I forgot to remove the tape... I think I will powdercoat the tips black... I felt the GFX diffuser after driving with them open for ~40 miles, cool to the touch. Video... sorry the quality is crappy, thought my new fancy Camera was supposed to be 1080p good video... guess not: BEFORE CAM: I am installing a cam soon, then I will have an "after-cam" video. EDIT... added the "after cam video" AFTER CAM:

after a few thousand dollars worth of mods... this is by far my favorite mod... hands down. Everyone is commenting on the way it sounds. I drive around with open 90% of the time. I just close them in neiborhoods, and when I get a phone call. Otherwise... "I just want to go fast" (Ricky Bobby).
And it was one of my cheaper mods since I got these used: used QTP cutouts ~$200 new SS connection pipes and tips ~$100 oval tubing from "DrGas.com" $60 welding $80

I was thinking about picking a set of these up too. I think most folks are putting them right after the headers. Any issues with putting them there? Before the sensors and such with them open seems like it might throw a code or something.
Advice appreciated. |

Badass!
Yes....it's tough to get traditional (good/real) cutouts in normal spots. I've done and also seen quite a few behind the axle on 5th gens. Lot more room back there. Great vid and thanks for sharing! Ivan |

You are the first I have seen that did it right!!!
I think they should be in the back as well. Sounds BAD ASS!!!!!! would you put a pick on your switch and how you mounted it. If you did this good on the install I am sure the wiring is clean as well. Thanks!!!! |

Sorry about the late response, I just noticed your post.
They are doing great. I was worried because some people told me that cutouts always leak eventually, mine don't. I drive around with them open most of the time, but I do toggle them multiple times a day (interstate and entering the neighborhood). I have had a motor problem because one of the teeth on the little gears in one motor broke. I think this is because I don't have the electronic controller or the wireless controller, and so I don't really know when they are fully open or closed. So I just hold the toggle up or down for ~10-12 sec in either direction and let it torque on the motor a little... probably a bad idea. However, I called QTP and they are getting me back in business.
