94 3.4L V6 whine when accelerating - stops at highway speeds

I my brother has a 94 3.4L V6. When accelerating there is a whine coming from the front of the vehicle. Once you reach highway speeds and stop accelerating the whine goes away.

Any thoughts?

Check the Idler pulley. It's a common issue. Might fix your problem.

If it is a manual 5 speed check the transmission fluid. Ours was low, drained fluid and filled the transmission with new fluid, noise went away.

So I tried the idle arm/pulley assembly with no improvement . Next I'm trying the belt which I don't think is the problem but it is the cheapest item to replace. I'll be changing the trans fluid and filter as well. If there is no luck with that I'll probably be swapping the alternator.
