New Stupid Question
Hey guys every year we have a top speed run up at Loring AFB in Maine. I want to take my car and try it out along with my Hayabusa. So for the top speed limiter on the Camaro, how can you trick it for a day without getting a tune and ruining your warranty? I am hoping some tuning buffs on here have figured out which thing to unplug etc. I dont care about the speedo not working since it is only one day for a few passes on the runway.

It's programmed into the computer, not really a way to trick it for a day.

What about unplugging the wheel sensors and the speedo sensor? Is that a possibility

I could see the car falling into fail modes without sensors plugged in and giving you reduced power, so I wouldn't start unplugging things.
There really isn't an easy cheat, or else it'd be all over forums of modern cars (like the old days of unplugging a cable in the trans). Tunes are honestly the way to do it, and to really do a lot on modern cars.

What about replacing the ECU with a tuned one? Can GM tell if you do this?

There is honestly no way of doing this without tuning your car and voiding that powertrain warranty. I'd say you either realize that going 155 MPH is plenty fast enough, or you tune the car properly so that you can SAFELY run the engine that fast anyway. Also make sure you have Y rated tires still, I don't know if you are still running the stock PZeros or you have switched to a different tire.

Frickin GM LOL Always ruining the fun. I have replacement tires, but they are PZeros also. I thought they were rated for 186 but I will have to check. 155 isnt really fast enough when I am bringing my bike that can run 196 -198, I was really hoping to get more like 165 170 out of the car. I am torn so I will have to wait and see. Since it isnt until next year anyway I have some time. Too bad to because you can find a replacement ECU pretty cheap. I am still amazed there isnt a company out there that can rewrite the table GM monitors back to original. I may have to do some research to see if I can add a resistor to cut the speed signal in half to the computer? I wonder if it has some connection to GPS that would monitor speed, but even then they wouldnt work in a tunnel. I am just thinking out loud here.

There are companies out there, but GM has smartened up and they can recognize when you modify the tables, even when you bring them back to stock. Once you do a write to the PCM it takes note. I own HPTuners, and just said screw it and tuned my car, and I'm honestly glad that I did, because in stock form it had way more knock than I wanted and I've brought it to much safer fueling and timing.

Are there any Electrical Engineers on here that can tell me from a schematic what wire has the speed sensor voltage and what resistor to put in to maybe half the signal. I am wondering if I trick the computer into believing it is still getting a signal, if it will let me go and report half of the speed on the speedo and too the computer?

I know you want to "try", but you are also messing with fueling and spark table params when you try to trick. You may think you are only going after a speed limiter, but you will also not get the engine to run worth a crap either. You would be giving a low speed, high rpm, high gear, high load (MAP) scenario that would definitely toss that sucker into limp mode! You can't trick it with resisters that way.
